Ok, probably a dumb question, but does anyone know of any shops in the East Bay (I'm in Brentwood) that will mount, balance and perform an alignment of tires on these new Stealth Custom Series Ray 10 tires I just purchased?

I went to a local off-road shop and they won't touch any wheels/tires that were not purchased from their shop. They told me that it was too much of a liability (in the event they scratched my wheels by accident). They also mentioned that it may be difficult to find a shop that would do it?

Do you know if they do alignments also?

Most if not all should do allignment and when you buy tires through them you can get a guarantee for $30 so if you tear a sidewall you get a free tire.

    Mounting/balancing is one thing.

    Alignments are another.

Wheels and tires have nothing to do with the alignment. An alignment can be done with no wheels/tires on the vehicle. The hubs are what gets aligned.

So, get your alignment done first using your old wheels/tires and that removes that issue.

While I agree with what you say, most shops will look at him like he has green mushrooms growing from his ears if he were to ask for a wheel’less alignment. I only know of a few shops in the Bay Area where they wouldn’t laugh at you if you were to ask this question...

Yea. Was just making my point about them not being 'required' as they don't affect alignment.

Why I said to use his old wheels and tires for the alignment. When he installs the new ones, it will have the same alignment.

Actually America’s tire which is the same company as discount tire doesn’t do alignments. They only sell tires which they mount and balance.

I stand corrected. Looks like Evans tire offers allignment, not sure if all of them do

Edit there are no evans tires near the OP. Firestone will do it and there is one in brentwood @JKDer

Sorry, forgot to mention that in addition to the new wheels and tires, I'm putting in a new suspension setup that includes UCAs.

I was more concerned about the wheels and tires because of the response I got from my local shop.

I go to AVN Motorsports at 2301 Oak St, Alameda, CA 94501 to get my tires mounted on my SCS. But they do not do alignments. I run 315/70/17 so I had to take it to a specialty shop to get an alignment with my aftermarket suspension and over size tires.

I have a lifetime alignment with firestone. They get me decent numbers and do a good job. Each shop is different though, a different firestone did not know what they were doing. Go for +3° castor with tc type UCAs.

Seems like bs.So if you had tires on those and wanted too buy tires from that shop they wouldn't mount them? Now I do agree they should charge more too mount and balance if bought else where.

Again, it's the hubs that are being aligned. You can put on new suspension, stick your old wheels/tires on, and have an alignment.

Put your new wheels/tires on, and you're all set.

FYI Firestone won't install or swap used tires onto different wheels. I was really annoyed with them when I found out that they wouldn't swap my 1,000 mile old tires on my new wheels after leaving my truck with them for three hours. They claimed it was because of liability. I wonder how much money they lose not swapping people's snow tires on during the winter with that policy. Fortunately my local shop had no problem doing it. I only took it to Firestone in the first place because I wanted to get my alignment tweaked and have a lifetime with them.

I'm just going to keep on pimping them because they are that good. If you don't mind spending half a day dealing with this (realizing its a hell of a drive from Brentwood), call and make an appointment @ Custom Alignment in Mountain View. They do installs as they are a Tire Rack installer. Alignment will cost you but you are paying for quality work. My post on them -

So I don’t need an alignment after switching from stock 265/65r16 on stock OR wheels to 265/75r16 on 3.5bs -25mm offset wheels? I’m at 6k so I don’t feel I’m otherwise due.

not sure on that since you are changing wheels. What I would do, watch closely for any abnormal tire wear or pulling. Get it checked out if you notice any at all after the swap.
