Got the left side finished out. Have a few more welds to cover and need to figure out how I want to cap the ends. But I’m happy with how it’s come out so far.

Alright got most of the structure done. I plan to add 3 front to rear crossmembers and skin the sides with plain ol sheet metal. Diamond plate the floor. Paint it black and be done.

No. Eventually there will be a bench seat mounted right behind the cab (forward most position in the bed).
But I am starting on the cage next. It will tie in to the bed.

I cant put my finger on it but it's missing something back there. Maybe the cage will fix that.

Here it is in all its glory. Still need to do the floors but it’s not a huge priority at the moment. At least it finally looks like a whole truck now. :D

What are you thinking for the floor? Removable 1/8" panels or something like that?

IMO it needs a headache rack or something, it's like somethings missing back there. Looks good overall though!!

Probably 1/8” diamond plate riveted on. That way I can remove them if necessary for things like fuel pump access or changing mufflers.

    Patience, grasshopper. Patience.

I hope y’all are ready for the booty fab..

I needed a tool box. I wanted one that was sunken in to the floor of the bed.

I cut up this 1984 Monte Carlo SS hood that my old tenant left behind... I hope it wasn’t valuable. :notsure:
    DF270926-858D-4194-AF3B-8F793330A9A0.jpg

Then I cut up the floor to my OE bed and glued them all together with bubble gum and popsicle sticks.

Tomorrow I’ll go buy a hinge and something legit for a lid.

Meh. I’ve had plenty of practice over the years. Keeping a longer tail and stand off from the material takes some heat out of the equation. With sheet metal the only thing I can’t weld is material thats been ground down too thin or fill a gap.

Got the box finished up and painted. Used 16ga steel and made a gusset on the underside of the lid. It’s not weather tight. It’s not perfect, it’s kinda ugly. But, shit, it will get the job done and allow me to carry some tools and recovery gear.

I also picked up 2 packages of these tie downs and got them welded on in various places.

I have those same hooks, make sure you grind the coating off them. They are either chrome or zinc, both not good to inhale while welding. Zinc poisoning sucks!!

    All done with the toolbox.
Welded the tie down hooks in various places that I think will suit my needs. Really need to find a better solution for tail lights but I haven’t found any that I like.
