Steve, Your truck did well at K2. Once you add a crawl box and some new tires it will continue to inpress you every time you go out and wheel. It was a great weekend.

Here is on pic that I especially liked and agian thank for the help when I flopped :)

I got respect for anyone that drives their rig to this park, wheels the piss out of it and drives back

Got my winch plate on order. Should work out great.

Also decided that I'm going to go with 37's instead of 40's. I know. I know. 40's would be awesome but they're just not in the budget. 37's will get me everywhere I want to go, anyway. And if not, I probably shouldn't be going there with my DD.

Guess I'll update now while my photobucket pictures are still up.

My 37's showed up at work yesterday. Still waiting on my wheels, unfortunately.
Wheels will be some 17x9 w/ 5" BS unique 297's (aka Cragar soft 8's).

My Barnes 4WD winch plate showed up also. It looks great. Only issue is the rear bolt holes of the winch will be right on top of the crossmember. Not entirely sure what to do about that. I don't want to raise the plate off of the frame and crossmember. But pushing it forward an inch or so may decrease approach angle too much. We'll see.

F photobucket. Flickr is where it's at now. :D

Can you drill holes in the crossmember (or even throw some DOM tube in the holes to keep the crap out) to access the mounting bolts for the winch?

I'd like to stay away from modifying the crossmember if possible.

Only other feasible idea I can think of is to cut out that thin crossmember of the radiator support (which isn't really doing much anyway) and set the winch plate back far enough to access the bolts and employ that 2nd fairlead.

Do you have a leak on your rear axle? Maybe from the brake line tee or the axle breather?

I'm not worried about the suck down winch capabilities. I'm most concerned with the 2 rear bolt holes for the winch itself. I really don't want to modify the crossmember to fit the bolts. I don't want to raise the plate off of the frame (and have to hack the grille more), and I don't want to push the plate too far forward. I don't know. I'll figure it all out once I get to fabbing the front bumper.

Steering box leak. It's coating EVERYTHING. It need a new pitman arm shaft seal. I need a pump rebuild too so I'll do that all at the same time.

I'm thinking a 3.5" hole saw drilled half way into the top of the crossmember, where the bolts land, will be the easiest. That'll leave me with a 1.75" hole to fill with a minute portion of the 100' of DOM I have. Sounds like the easiest thing to do and won't compromise strength.

    The dirty sevens are on.
The cragar's barely clear the calipers with the 5" back spacing, but it works just fine.
They balanced out well. A couple of the assembly's took nearly 12 ounces to balance but they zeroed out.

Power isn't too bad. Took a few runs down the highway to make sure my speedo calibration was working well at higher speeds. Head winds suck. Tail winds are great. I no longer feel like reaching for a 6th gear after getting to speed in 5th. She purrs right at 2750 at 70.
Hopefully that might help with highway mileage slightly. Only time will tell.

Have to re-seal the oil pan tomorrow. A slow dribble has turned into a full on leak.
Hoping to get started on the bumper this coming Sunday.

Got the front bumper done this weekend. It came out a little different than I originally planned but that's okay. It still has the basic shape I wanted.
I won't take all the credit for it since a couple of my buddies did a lot of the bending and critiqued/ changed some of the design. However, I had a lot of fun building it!

First things first, here's how I solved the issue of the winch bolts landing on top of the cross member. Took a 1.75" hole saw through the front of the cross member and put half of a piece of 1.75" tube in the gap and welded it up. Worked great!

    photo1-11_5641efba278a77a5b0d665edbe811ef233613a51.jpg

It got fully welded after this picture.
    photo2-9_d78fc6d82544578bf0b1a5b27bf7d1e95c0a0c48.jpg

We got the winch plate centered and tacked then tied top of it in and made it the "base" for the top cross tube.
    photo3-8_9dcb1530a9b10a954c591ae24c3015ef1aaf778c.jpg

Added a couple supports and it really began to take shape.
    photo4-7_097d3feb53be8999cb59dbc48ce95e23b7447949.jpg

Got the stinger done as the last piece. Added a couple gussets under the winch plate and elsewhere and was done.
    photo5-5_fef6a02c493c510c4d9c8072f7c37525656141ac.jpg

I'm currently waiting for the paint to dry so I can bolt the winch up. Picked up a smittybilt 9.5 xrc on Friday. It should do the job just fine.

Nice job, bumper looks good! I like it better without the stinger though, just not my taste, but I get it... :D

Thanks, boss! I appreciate that. :)
I really did like the styling of my old 4XI bumper and that's what my original design would have been a closer copy to. However, due to design/ strength issues this one came out a bit different.
