Pass on insurance claim. A pre-painted bumper cap will most likely be less than your deductible plus added ding on CARFAX.

I just touched mine up and eventually bought black caps to cover.

If it’s not repaired properly the ding on the value of your truck will be more than the ding on Carfax. From my experience you will never be happy with it if not properly repaired IMO .

I am mainly interested in whether I should use a touch-up pen or spray paint?

My deductible would deter me from filing an insurance claim, and I am just wondering if I can get a decent enough finish as opposed to buying a new cap?

Touch up but do it slower by layering. Apply and wait, then add on another layer. If you don’t like how it comes out, sand it down and try spray paint? (but that would be more of a hassle for me)

If it were my truck, I’d touch up and see how it looks. If you don’t like the outcome, buy a new cap. That’s just me though.

Yep, sand out any gouges smooth, then layer up the primer, sand, until smooth. Then final coat and clear. Paint is all in the prep work.

You might go find a body shop that does cash work (some ONLY do insurance work) and get it painted for a couple hundred $. No Carfax, no record. GL~

Yeah like this guy said- I wouldn't spray paint it. Get some color match paint. Use a small model paint brush adding layers slowly and you can even add some clear to the last layer to build up to existing paint level. Spraying its kinda ghetto.

Not too sure but touch up paint. You can order on-line or from the dealer, myself touch up.I have repaired an earlier taco with sand. Mask off, primer. Must be smooth then spray with a can. Be larger enough area to allow blending or at a panel. If your happy with it. You’re done

It needs a catalyzed clear over the color if your want to closely match the factory paint. Check out 2K catalyzed clear in the spray can.

This creates a possible inexpensive solution. I'd like to see some trucks that replaced the colored caps with black caps and explore that option?

If a match-painted or black cap is available as a replacement as was mentioned by a previous member: just buy a color-matched replacement cap: it's a no-brainer. 10 minute job and you're done.
Trying to touch it up by hand with a touch-up brush and paint or spray will leave a mess that looks worse than it does now.:annoyed:

My truck had chrome bumper caps and I wanted paint matched so I just ordered paint matched ones from Amazon. They fit just like the originals and the color match is perfect. I popped the chrome covers off and the the painted ones on. You can try touch up paint, it will keep it from catching your eye but it will still be there.

You could use a spray can of plasti dip if you want black.

You would seriously do an insurance claim for that amount of damage? To each their own, but I personally save insurance claims for real accidents with real damage.

I personally would hit it with some touch up paint to take the edge off and learn to love it!

Huh? Spraying is ghetto?! You do know they sell color matched in a spray can, right? They also sell clear coat.
