So I ran 40% of the can into the brake booster line and 60% into the gas tank yesterday. Got quite the smoke show for nearly 30 minutes. Now my question is, do I need to get a oil change? If so how soon? Why? I am getting mixed reviews some say as long as I didn't dump it into the oil that I don't need a oil change and some say get the oil changed around 100 miles after Sea Foam. Thank you in advance.

check your oil. if it's dark, change it. if it's good, change it at the next interval.

basically you can dump the bottle in your oil to help loosen sludge and then change it, most wait until they are close to the change interval to actually dump it in.

also there is some burn off from the intake clean you did that may get trapped in the oil.

I've never had to change the oil after pulling it through vacuum to clean the upper, but I do change the oil after dumping it into the crank case.

I say your fine for now but always check the oil anyway.

Yeah I heard if I dump it into the crank case then I should change it. I let it ran and checked the oil before and after it was the same. I will check it again after some more driving and go from there.

after the initial smoke screen there won't be any more burn-off to worry about so you should be fine. I can't remember but i think I only dump a half a can into the oil (it's a % of oz. to quarts of oil)

On another note I'm needing to drain/fill my ATF so I actually bought their TransTune product and dumped a little in a while ago, just been too cold/wet out to get it changed.

The smoke you are seeing is from chemicals in the can, not carbon buildup. It's cheaper to just use water to clean the top end of your cylinders. You won't see a smoke show though.

Very carefully. Water is not combustible like Seafoam, so done wrong you can hydrolock the motor.

I've done many a carbureted motor with water, using a ketchup like squeeze bottle to control the water stream into the carb, using great caution not to stall the motor as it stumbles. The de-carbonization happens with the shock of cold water hitting the hot carbon. I've had hunks come out the exhaust that were the size of the exhaust pipe diameter...... so it does work.

Seafoam is cheap enough I'd not try water. But I've not had to decarbon anything in years. An occasional bottle of Techron in the gas along with a few visits to the rev limiter and things stay pretty clean.

So you say you ran 40% in the booster line did you have an adapter or what did you use? I think this is all the jiffy lube places do when you get your fuel injectors cleaned.

Yeah I usually try to put one can in every oil change on my vehicles.

On the 3.4, running an intake cleaner thru the brake booster line will reach only one cylinder, no more no less, red arrow below.
Best to use the PCV port or better still the line from the charcoal canister.

This is the best line to use on the V6.

Nope. You don't put anything in your oil to decarbon. If you have carbon in the lubrication system, you have very unusual problems that no magic-in-a-bottle will fix.

Now I'm sure you know this already, 'cause you made a funny.

I'm just posting this for all the future readers who might not know much more than level lifts, big tars, CAIs, cat backs and subwoofers.

I took the booster line off and poured it in slowly. I've never done it before so by no means I am wanting to give anyone some tips on how to do it. All I know is it was slow to pour and it was a cloud of smoke. Not sure if it helped nor can I feel any difference.

@Dirty Pool is right, the brake booster line wont reach all cylinders! Just take a look at it and youll see why. Use the pcv, youll see that from there all cylinders will be feed! It enters just after the TB instead of down further in the intake like the brake booster.

If done wrong, you can hydrolock a cylinder with seafoam. That is a fact because I know someone who was done it.

Makes sense. I suppose you could overwhelm the combustion process by flooding it.

Seems like you'd have to be reasonably careless to do that though.

I used the spray can last time and kept the engine rev'd at ~1.5k to help pull in the spray more evenly and with atomization

Agree, but like I said it has been done. It is very important that the liquid gets atomized and distributed and not just dump it in.

Did you spray it down the intake or pcv port like others said?
