I usually split the can in thirds, with one going in the fuel, another going in the oil, and the final one aspirated through the vacuum line. The amount of smoke I've seen varies, but has never been as much as what's shown in online videos. I have no empirical data to prove what it's done (or not done) for me, but idle and acceleration seem smoother afterwards. (I realize that could be a placebo effect but, as @Jaypown said, it provides peace of mind.)

Recently I used the seafoam with the spray attachment that you fit into the intake right before the throttle body. What you do is you get someone to hold the RPM at 2000 while you spray the whole can through. And then you take it for a "spirited" drive. Saw a lot of black smoke come out the tailpipe, but I wasn't sure if this is indicative of any buildup from the engine being released. A lot of white smoke will be created doing it, so be careful where you do it. It won't hurt putting it in the oil a could hundred miles before changing it, neither will it hurt to put it in the gas tank. But these days oil and gas have all the necessary detergents so improvement may be very little at best.

I soaked an old crusty spark plug from a mower in seafoam for a week just to see what would happen....
Nothing happened, I could have soaked it in water and got the same results. Waste of money

Sea foam is good stuff but there are much better fuel additives that both clean, lubricate and improve performance. Some of the top ones are Redline, Liqui Moly, Techron, STP and GumOut. The cleaning agent in all of them is something called PEA. The more PEA the better. I believe GumOut has the most PEA.

SeaFoam works great, I use it once a month or so via the fuel tank and once or twice a year via the intake manifold using the aerosol spray can. Puts on a good smoke show for the neighborhood when you do it that way :D Careful doing it via the intake if you use the regular bottle though, don't want to pour it too quickly or bad things can happen.

Use it on my taco and used it recently on my girlfriends Jeep. Usually run it through a vacuum line and watch the smoke show. Jeep was throwing a code for misfire in cylinder 6 and kept dying frequently. Ran the seafoam through it, smoked like hell and the check engine light went off and it runs better than it ever has. Good shit.

I bought a 77 4hp 2 stroke Johnson motor for my boat. It had been sitting for years and was really hard to keep running:(. Took it to the local marine shop to get the carbs rebuilt. When the tech said it was 95 bucks for each carb plus rebuild kits I was shocked:eek:. Then he said try the poor mans rebuild kit "a bottle of seafoam". He told me to put the gas line in the seafoam bottle and run it undiluted thru the carbs:confused:. Wow what results. It runs like a new motor and starts on the 1st or 2nd pull each time:thumbsup:. I use it in everything since then and keep 2 bottles in my garage.

Be careful ,I’ve heard running anything in your oil can cause gaskets and seals to fail in a higher mileage engine :notsure:

So if you look up the MSDS/SDS of SeaFoam it is 80/20 Naphtha and kerosene.

Now if you want to quit getting dry fucked spending $7 for a 16oz can of SeaFoam go to WalMart and buy a gallon of Crown camp fuel (100% Naphtha) for $8. You can also get Coleman fuel for about $12 a gallon or a gallon of Naphtha in the paint section of $15 but it is all nothing more then 100% Naphtha AKA white gas. Then stop at the local gas station buy $0.75 of K1 kerosene and then mix them together. For less then $9 you have made about 150 ounces of SeaFoam.

You'd be surprised at how many things are ordinary inexpensive readily available chemicals that folk rebrand slap a fancy label on it and upsell it 10 fold.

I buy it by the dozen, I will use it for 2 fuel fill ups go a month or so and repeat. The truck has 295xxx miles, I started this about 150xxx miles back. I figured it can only help.

Last summer a customer brought in an 1990 Pontiac Firebird for a crank/no-start. Fuel pump was dead, dropped the tank, replaced pump and strainer, car started/ran, customer paid the bill and left.

2 weeks later he tows it back in. No fuel pressure and the fuel gauge had stopped working. Did all my normal power feed checks back to the tank, fuel pump was getting power, It should run. Dropped the tank found the pump dead. Replaced the fuel pump and the level sending unit, car ran again.

Customer admitted that he put a can of Seafoam in the tank after he left the first time.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Pop the oil cap off and you’ll see part of the timing chain. If it’s shiny with no buildup your good.

Used some in my 97 firebird. Had like 103k on it. Took it for a test drive to clear all the smoke out and threw a rod bearing. It may clean somethings a little "too" good.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Agree with adding it to oil approx 200 miles before change. I bought mine and did so on 150 mile drive from Greenville SC to Charlotte. Nasty chunky stuff came out of the drain. And I found out later it was changed just before they sold it to me. Engine idle went from 1000rpm to 550rpm. Purrs like a kitten. I'm a believer.

I've been trying other brands. Lucus and redline....
At 75K after 3 treatment my mpg when up almost at 17 from 14s with 285s..

My customer from Harley says to run a few oz of lucus in the tank at all times and the engine will run much better.
Cleans the fuel system, valves, pistons and piston rings...

The only thing I’ve used sea foam for is spraying directly into carburetors on cars, lawn mowers, outboards etc. it does a good job of cleaning out dirty carbs and jets. As I stated before there are far better fuel additive products than seafoam.
As far as oil if you change your oil at regular intervals there is absolutely no reason to add seafoam to your oil.
