Seafoam - Do you use it?

Do any of you use Seafoam regularly as a fuel additive? Is it something you would recommend or maybe a better alternative? Waist of money?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I purchased an '07 Camry I4 with 95k, dealer maintained, all records kept, supposedly no issues. I used Seafoam in it once and I started burning a quart of oil every 1200 miles, my engine had to be rebuilt. Can I say for 100% that Seafoam cause it ..... No, but I'm not changing it again.

Not a problem man, Napa used to be the only one that had it but I have seen it at a couple bigger chains recently

 

Sea foam is best for machines that sit for a long time. And ones that have carburetors. It's mostly about keeping the gas stable, keeping the ethanol from turning into goo. Keeps the carb jets clean, fuel lines, etc.

BG44K is great for cleaning up injection systems. I run a can through a tank of gas maybe every 25K miles, unless I think the fuel system is needing to be cleaned, in which case I'll do it right away.

 

I ran it through the throttle body of my '99 Prerunner, worked like a charm. I remember there was a guy over on the Yotatech forums that hydrolocked his 4runner doing it though. After I read about that I've been afraid to use it ever since (via the throttle body, never tried it as a gas tank additive...sounds much safer)

 

Did you dump it into a vacuum hose into the intake?

I would never do it that way as if done too fast it tends to wash the lubrication off the cylinder walls and you end up where you did, burning oil.

Seafoam is fine when added to the gasoline or oil.

 

I only use it on small motor and anything with a carb. Fuel injected I stay away from it.

 

PEA - polyether amine - is THE cleaner of fuel systems. There are some well known brands with high percentages of the compound - Chevron Techron is popular - but the Lucas gallon jug of Fuel System Cleaner is the best price. It takes about 5 ozs for 15 gallons of fuel - and that's the rub, you have to measure it out - its not in some easy to add container.

I bought a small bottle and the gallon bottle too. I used the small bottle first and kept it, refilled it with a steady hand and funnel, so it measures out perfectly every time. I dump it in at every oil change.

I usually buy a few of the small bottles when they're on sale, and run it through every 3-6 months. These days my cars are all newer, so its hard to see a difference, but it helped a lot with my 93 Firebird. It was the only fuel cleaner that actually worked well in that thing.

 

Wow, I've used Sea Foam in a previous car through a vacuum hose into the intake manifold and never had issues. It actually helped out noticeably. I just poured a can in my Tacoma's tank before my last fill up. Now after what everyone's saying here, I may try the Lucas.

BG44K for life, I bought a 88' audi 80 that was sitting for a year and a half. needles to say I was having many issues like the gas had damn near varnished and was goop in the lines/filter and tried one can of it with a fill up there was zero issues after that.
