    Hey guys,

I have a 2014 Tacoma TRD Off Road and was wondering if there is a method to disable the seatbelt chime. I have looked at a few threads on here and have only been able to see ones for 08' and 09' models. Anyone have any luck doing this with a 2014? Did the code change at all? Maybe I'm doing it wrong, I have been following this sequence(this for an 08'):

    1) Turn the Car 'ON', but do not start the engine (Leave your foot off the brake). Cycle your trip reset knob until it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.
    2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened
    3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the car (Leave you foot off the break) As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.
    4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is the software hard to get on my own? Or do I have to take it in somewhere?
    Thanks for the reply

You can get the software on Amazon or eBay.

They are Chinese clones of the Toyota Tech Stream program.

    Look up Toyota techstream.

I have my own version and it works great!

Don't mind the retarded comments about seatbelts. Some people can't grasp the fact that you don't need a reminder to put on your belt or there could be situations where belts are not needed.

you can disable it a few ways.

    1. take it to the dealership, they use their techstream cable / software and change the setting
    2. you buy a techstream cable, find the software, install it on a laptop, and do it yourself (not hard if you know what you are doing, but you gotta know where to look, took me about an hour to get techstream up and running on my windows 7 64 bit laptop)

    3. Use an OBD bluetooth adapter and telnet into the ecu with an android phone / laptop with a telnet program and issue a series of commands (this is how i did it before i had the techstream setup)

Take a five gallon bucket lid and trace/cut a piece out that duplicates the male end of the belt connection. Plug it in place when not wanting it worn.

Another option is to get a short seatbelt extender, clip it into your wired receiver to make the truck think the seat belt is fastened, and then the other end has a buckle so that when you need to wear your seatbelt you can then fasten it.

Reviving an old thread here but do you know, if I disable the chime via tech stream and then disconnect the battery for whatever reason, will I have to re-disable it?

It will not. I've removed/replaced many batteries on several different Toyota trucks over the years. It does not change your seat belt chime setting that chose.

The chime will stop. It lasts about 25 seconds longer than a normally adjusted person can take. It will reset and ding after shifting to R (MT experience). Can’t speak to slush box variants, but I’d advise you’d wear your seatbelt if putting on your makeup using the rear view mirror.

I run into this issue when my dog rides next to me in my regular cab (bench seat). He's just heavy enough to set off the sensor. The dinging eventually stops.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
Under normal circumstances I used to be in the "just put your belt on" camp. But after a few months working in a shop and having to move vehicle after vehicle, all of 30 yards while listening to the god-awful seatbelt chimes that never end, I get it. I've also had moderately heavy things in my passenger seat that tripped the sensor. The beep in my truck is tolerable and stops after 58 beeps. I haven't disabled it because honestly its just the push I need to remember I really should have the belt on 99% of the time.

But the newer chimes start docile, then escalate to juuust the volume and frequencies that compel me to kick infants. Which I'm sure is meant to be attention-grabbing, bit it's to the point that it's disorienting if it comes on while navigating a turn or pulling into a tight service bay. And I havent been able to tolerate one long enough to see if it stops yet lol. What I'd give for a "mute the chime for 5 minutes" button.
