Hmm, I didn't think of that. Wonder if they can repair those too. I'll find out tomorrow!

    long overdue update:

myairbags said they can repair stuck buckles or reset the buckle pretensioner (didn't know that was even a thing!) that's been deployed due to an accident. I called and explained the problem and although they said they could fix it, the way he answered wasn't very confidence inspiring. It's $89 for the repair and if they can't fix it, they'll reduce it to a $39 bench testing fee. Not sure it's worth $40 +shipping to have the buckle sent back in the exact same condition...

safetyrestore said basically the same thing.

Maybe I need to just let it go and accept the light not working anymore!

Used buckles aren't a risky move at all. As you can see, they are pretty simple inside. Because of this, they rarely fail. I would imagine that it could be repaired without sending it to some fancy refurbishing place. The basic function of the electronic portion of the buckle is to close the circuit when the seatbelt is plugged in, and open the circuit when it isn't. There are many ways to make this happen.

But either way, eBay or a junkyard should offer plenty of used replacements.

I would have thought that too but i picked up a buckle out of a 99 w/ bucket seats, which is identical to mine, and that buckle doesn't work either. That's actually the one I took apart. Maybe someone smarter than me can figure out what the white slider part on the right attaches to in order to make it slide up or down when the buckle was inserted. Slider stays above the bottom white line, light works properly. Slider goes below the bottom white line, light goes off and stays off.

Try inserting the male part of the seatbelt buckle into the buckle while it's open, and see where everything lines up. I can open mine up and take a look at it if you don't figure it out.

Does this piece (in blue) not move down when the buckle is inserted? It seems like that's the piece that should move the white "slider" up and down, when it's assembled.

it's been a while but yes, it does seem like the part inside the blue moved up and down when the buckle was inserted and it does seem like the white slider would have been connected to that piece however I just can't figure out how they're supposed to be mated up.

I'm happy the buckle still functions as it should and that it's just the light that doesn't work but it drives me nuts when something isn't working like it's supposed to!

that part isn't an issue. the bulb NEVER comes on, not even on start up. Funny thing is I want the bulb to work!

I feel you. I am the same way at times. I believe that's how it should function. The piece in the blue square should slide the white piece down when the buckle is inserted; causing continuity across the two leads. You can try popping that tan PCB out and see if maybe something is worn out on the backside. Since it works for you when you manually slide the white piece down, but not with the buckle, something may be worn, needing more travel to engage the switch.

I feel like this is exactly the problem. either worn or broken so the slider no longer slides. It's not a rush but I'll keep at it to see if I can come up with a way to get it working again. Appreciate the input!
