Seat belt will not pull out

I bought a 2010 Toyota Tacoma extended cab 2 days ago. My wife tried driving the truck today and now the seat belt will not pull out of the door. Unfortunately the dealership is 60+ miles. It’s unsafe to drive that far. I am trying to get the dealership to pick it up and fix it. Any other suggestions?

 

Is it parked on level ground? If not, drive it to level ground and see if it works. There is a pendulum in the seat belt mechanism that swings under sudden deceleration and locks the seat belt.

If that doesn't work and you bought it from the dealer, call them up and tell them they sold you an unsafe vehicle and they need to take care of it.

There was a recall on some years of access cabs that the seat belt bolts came loose. There is probably a very slim chance that is the problem.

If they won't take care of it and you're on your own, watch this video and Jamie will show you how to remove the door panel. After that, removing the seat belt assembly is easy. Unless there's an obvious quarter or lego jammed in it, it's not repairable. Buy a used assembly from the wrecking yard and swap it out.

Thanks for your help on this matter. The dealership put in a brand new seatbelt. I think there might been an issue with this before. The door looks like it might’ve been before. Maybe with the same seatbelt issue or the inner door handle. The door handle is not easy to open.
