Did Toyota forget the driver? That’s what I asked after a few weeks in my 2025 Tacoma Trailhunter. While the 4th Gen Tacoma brings huge improvements, it suffers with almost no interior storage — especially in hybrids. So I was out looking for storage solutions...

And I didn't see this one coming!

In my video I share an unedited clip of First Impressions of the [Adjustable] Desert Does It Seat Jackers On A 4th Gen Tacoma!

    FULL VIDEO:
Game-Changing Interior Mod for 4th Gen Tacoma (Seat Jackers + Full Storage Setup)

    What We Installed:
Desert Does It Adjustable Seat Jackers

    Multimount Panel

Right Angle Bracket With Clockable Extension

Magnetic Mounts + Fire Extinguisher Mount

Full parts + tool list linked in video description.

Because the seat no longer bolts to the floor pan with this design, I'd be worried about these aluminum front spacers shearing and/or the threads tearing out in an impact.

I'd only buy a set if they were made out of steel.

What are you carrying that you don’t have storage for inside? Just curious. There’s pockets in the door, there’s cupholders at the shifter, there’s two more cupholders behind your elbow. There’s a decent size spot where the phone charger is, and a deeper area right next to the oh shit handle. Then there’s the center console cubby, and of course, the glove box.

8x 2 liter scuba tanks, 2 large dive propulsion vehicles, large milkcrate of electrical charging stuff, cooler, large and small suitcase on the small rear passenger seat, tool bag, window covers, wife's carryon type bag. None of that fits in the 9 thousand useless cup holders.

Dang but that guy in the video- that's a lot of loose crap to end up under the brake pedal if someone taps your rear end, and you have to jam on the brakes. All that mess looks kinda dangerous to me. I never tried the seat jackers in my 1st gen, but i might do some crazy things for some space in the 4th gen.

Not OP, but I carry a tow rope, shackles, 2” trailer ball stinger, ratchet straps, compressor, tire repair kit, surf wax, beach blanket, tailgate pad, medical kit, stingray bag, and a few other items under the rear seats at all times

OP, If you weren’t trying to get kickbacks on these accessories purchases then I’d accept your unbiased reviews. My seating position seems perfectly fine. Also I plan to get a diamondback bed cover and a cross bin storage unit so non issue for me.

Aside from my experience with the past Toyota seating position and much improved gen 4 position, long ago and again, I wonder if the people who make the jackers repeat crash tests. This is really strong in my mind from having lost a family member in a crash - Ford pickup - and all sorts of comments from first responder associates on how the vehicles handle accidents.

While our family member's accident was not his fault and from a pair of road ragers at an on ramp sending him into the other lane on freeway, my going through the vehicle at the impound site for personal belongings saw all the ways things bend and break. Some vehicles at that impound site has seats broken from their attachments. My niece was in a similar vehicle flipped in median accident and that late model Subaru Outback passenger compartment did not deform, and you could also see how airbags deployed all over which also left my mindset with do not mess with what the engineers of top vehicles do and test.

From the experience of also having to deal with post-crash, the body, knowing all that went wrong, I've even tempered my choices with seat covers because the Tacomas have the SRS symbol so the seat covers I got are air bag compatible.

What exactly do other trucks have for milk crate storage that the Tacoma doesn’t? That sounds like a backseat or bed item in any truck.

In all honesty it sounds like you bought the wrong truck, and at a TSRP of over $65k I'd be looking at options on how not to spend any more on this one and find something else.

In My 3rd Gen I had plenty of storage behind the rear seats and under the rear seats. I got spoiled lol. The Trailhunter since it's a hybrid, I lost storage capabilities under the rear seats completely and on the driver's side rear behind the seat is completely gone due to a JBL speaker. All my recovery gear and some tools, I keep on a Roam 83L on some Billie Bars. Here's a video for that if your interested

Nah, I love my Trailhunter, but since ARB just came out with a front steel bumper for the 4th Gen Tacoma's, if they offered that on the 2026 and if they fixed the storage issues on a hybrid I'd be very tempted on trading it for a new one.

My critique of almost every mid size truck has been that if they just extended the body to add 2" of storage behind the seat, it would make everything better. But then the argument is, would you rather have that as passenger room in front of the seat? Honestly I'd like to remove the drivers side rear seat and put in a low storage cabinet with a basket / rail on top.

Where would you like them to put that big hybrid battery to free up your under seat storage? Under the hood isn't possible, and nobody wants to give up bed space for it. So tother than those two places, where would you relocate it?

You're not going to fit all of that stuff in the under seat storage area of a non-hybrid or even a full-size truck.

The hybrid engine compartment is certainly tight, but they fit a twin turbo v6 in the GX (and SEMA Tacoma). If they could have kept the 12v battery in the engine compartment and left 1/3 of the underseat area (which is a little taller/deeper in the hybrid) for storage that would have been great.
