So there's only 2 possible negatives.
    • When the truck is being driven and there is not a person in the driver's seat if the truck gets into an accident the driver's side air bags will deploy.
    • If there is a person in the driver's seat and if they do not have their seatbelt on and if they get into an accident the air bag will deploy and if there isn't a seatbelt on that could potentially be of great hazard to the driver. Now if that sort of scenario is against TacomaWorld's policies I truly apologize but that would mean the seatbelt chime delete thread I stumbled across would also be against TacomaWorld's policies.

I gotta go back to work.

The concern, that the critical thinkers have, is that the truck does not know if the belt is buckled or not and thus in the event of an accident would not deploy the airbag. So you are now not buckled in and have no airbag and end up through the window sparing the world from the future generations of people you may produce who also would be likely to disable manufactures safety features. So I no longer have an issue with this thread.

The chime on my older (97) was inside of a plug in box you can not just pull the box but you can open it and cut the power to the chime the only thing it won't do is chime.

Oh come on, we don’t need a lecture, he’s not talking about not wearing a seat belt going down the road, there’s plenty of times when you don’t want to buckle up if you use your truck for doing things other than driving down the road. I wouldn’t disable my seat belt chime using this method but I would like to disable it. Ex: going down my long driveway to get mail. Hauling sticks and lumber across the pasture. Setting up shooting targets and driving back 500+ yards to shoot.

TechStream worked for me too and it was only 38 dollars. I can read codes, add and remove keys and play with very limited options.

I've read all of the replies.

The seat has two switches, one switch to detect if someone is sitting in the seat and one switch to detect if the seatbelt is being used. Neither switch affects the air bags in any way as air bags will deploy even if a seatbelt isn't being used. That's how people typically get seriously hurt in accidents when air bags deploy and seatbelts weren't being used. I never recommended driving around without a seat belt. I recommended a completely free mod that takes less than 5 seconds to complete that doesn't affect anything except the seatbelts chime and the seatbelts warning indicator light. You don't need a reader or program anything. Both switches are normally closed switches which means that unplugging that plug is electrically exactly like sitting in the seat with the seatbelt being used. That is all, have a fantastic evening all.

Does our truck have a warning light for the SRS system if something is wrong? If so I would think that light would come on if that plug had anything to do with the airbag system. I once had an old Honda Accord that would trip the SRS light when the passenger seat belt was buckled. Turned out to be a dirty contact in the buckle. I got the light to stop tripping with a good sprtiz of electric contact cleaner into the buckle.

Someone who owned my truck prior disabled the chime. The light still blinks if I don't have my seat belt on but it doesn't ding.

Follow the link TheDude94 posted on page 1. You can turn off the chime the proper way the way a dealership would and it takes 30 seconds and requires nothing but some reading.
I always encourage wearing your seat belt, but my dog rides with me a lot and he used to set off the chime all the time until I followed those same instructions. You'll still get a light, but that's a lot less annoying and still a reminder if you forget to put yours on! Small potatoes.

    Yes.

There is no other correct way to word this: unplugging the plug is electrically exactly the same as sitting in the driver's seat with the seat belt plugged in.

After I broke the windshield in my old XJ Cherokee with my Border Collie's head during an accident (with a ghost in the brakes that's a longer story) on every ride for the rest of his life he was buckled in a seatbelt, too, @DecepTaco.

I used one of the harness deals that the belt loops through. He was fine after hitting the windshield (it wasn't a high speed event), but lemme tell ya, one never gets over doing that to one's buddy.
