Went to buckle up after a day of work and the little black piece that is pushed into the receptacle by the buckle was popped out and wouldn’t go back in.

Any insight on how to shove this little guy back in?

Thanks for the links, both came to the same thread and I wanted the video attached. Seems simple enough.

it was just an awkward feeling buckling in to the passenger side from the drivers seat on the way home today

    Replace.

Something caused the part to dislodge. Do you know the cause?
If you manage to "push it back in", will it stay in?
Will the latch hold in an accident?

Do you want to gamble serious injury or worse on your "fix"?

I’ll have to remember that.
I probably wouldn’t have thought to use the passenger side.

The bad thing about using the passenger side buckle is that with the drivers side not indicating as buckled the air bags will not deploy in an accident.

It's best not to attempt repair on stuff like that, replace it and keep yourself in the seat. Don't be like that guy in the jeep video on the beach

    Or this dog. Poor guy.
I bet he don’t ride in a car/truck for awhile.
People should think about their pets when in riding in a vehicle.

BTW, I haven’t seen the guy with a Jeep on the beach?
    Gotta a link?

I imagine 8 yrs/170k miles on his truck, meaning he is way out of the 6 yr/60k seat belt warranty.

Isn't the airbag sensor based on weight in the seat, not the seatbelt buckled or not? Actually, shouldn't the driver's side deploy no matter what?

Not arguing, necessarily, just seems stupid if it really is based on having the seatbelt buckled. Kinda like "Ahh, we notice you chose not to buckle your seatbelt....well here's a double fuck you, the airbag aint gonna save your ass either". But I'm no expert on any airbag, and certainly not toyota specific.

The SRS system is based on both the Air Bags and the seat belt. The passenger side is also taking into consideration the weight because a child could be injured more so than an adult.

The drivers side hopefully a child isn't driving. That being said a driver that isn't buckled in can be killed by the airbag if he is not restrained by the seat belt. Think of a wreck the driver unrestrained is flying forward at a high speed and the air bag is deploying towards him at a high speed. Massive impact between the two, that can potentially cause death or massive injuries.

That is why the air bags are disabled when the seat belt isn't buckled
