Tires, brakes and a seat belts are on my top list of things to not cheap out on.

I replace these parts way in advance if they are wearing.

 

@GQ7227 Post #2 I just went through the same thing. I looked online at a couple of toyota parts places, and they showed to many different options for seat belts. I contacted Gunny, and he hooked me up with the correct part numbers. I just installed my new drivers side seatbelt from camelback. Gunny's the man, and he'll steer you in the right direction.

 

Will 4Runner or Lexus front seat belts work on a Taco? I see more 4Runners in the junkyards than Tacos. I actually snagged a "like new" set of seatbelts for cheap years ago from an Infiniti for one of my Nissans. There might be some cross product interchangeability on this like steering wheels airbags.

I ordered and put in both front seat belts from Totota when I had my truck painted,,, really disappointed in Toyota, I wish they'd learn how to make a "new" belt that will re-tract all the way, both of my new ones are limp wristed to say the least.
Oh, mine called for Oak color, but they were sold out so I got the blue/gray color I guess you'd call it.

that is not good to hear! maybe mine is not so bad at all...
sometimes it retracts 0k, sometimes it don't anymore

i give it a real good tug, sometimes it locks, sometimes it don't...

 

If it doesn’t lock it’s not working and will do nothing in a crash for you.

You can always get an aftermarket 3 point seat belt too for cheap, of course it would not retract tho.

 

Strange, I had to get used to my new seat belts as they are always snug to my chest - uncomfortable at first. No issues with retracting or locking. By the way there are two points of locking - one is fast pull, the other is inertia movement. You don't need to pull hard to lock, they will lock even on the braking.

Yup, IF they are working correctly, good info to add here.
My old seat belt would only work on a really fast pull on the seat belt,
otherwise it used to just hang loose

 

i pull my belt like I am going 500mph to see if it locks lol
it usually does lock that fast real quick, but a little slower and its often haphazard results

 

There was actually a big difference in how my new belt locked up compared to my old one, that being the new one works much better at locking than the old one.

 

It is not how fast you pull on the belt, it is the inertia mechanism (ball and the lever) inside the belt case that senses the deceleration of the whole truck. When the truck decelerates the belt will lock up regardless if you pull on belt or not.

 

I sent mine into Safety Restore after the passenger side locked up completely. It took them 5 days, I got to pick the color belt I wanted, they fixed the issue, cleaned all the OEM parts. It was $75 per belt.

It should be noted that you have to pay tax, shipping, and return shipping. So the $75 per belt is a little closer to $100 per belt after all that. You also have to take the belts out yourself and reinstall them yourself. If it is your only vehicle, you'll be driving around without seatbelts for a few days.
