so if you keep the speed to under whatever it is you can safely brace yourself (grip the steering wheel) you should be good to go a few days?
i.e., no more hauling it down the freeway lol

I cannot recommend driving without seatbelts. I was only letting anyone who does this know what they are in for if it comes to that.

That's good to know, my seat belts are also starting to need hand fed back in. Thanks for the info.

well i took a look back there to see and my seatbelt change is very much a pain in the
all the parts to remove, undo the rear side window, a coat hook, moldings
lotta stuff to take off without damage just to get to a seatbelt!

Do our trucks use explosive seat belts tensioners or pre-tensioners that triggered by air-bag deployment?

@CS_AR I just ordered a new seat belt from CamelBack toyota and had to pay a hazmat shipping fee. So I'm going to assume that there's some type of explosive device incorporated into the seat belt. Somebody with more knowledge than me please chime in.

Correct. Late 1st Gens has an explosives pretensioner.

i was checking out the back of my xtracab paneling and trims.
does every bit need to be removed (including undoing the window latch) to access the seatbelt exchange or just the squarish piece needs to come out where the seatbeat comes through :notsure:

I wonder what year the explosive device was introduced to Tacoma? I've got a 1999 Infiniti that used it but not in the 1998 model. So I had to go back to the salvage yard to get the one for a year later when I needed to replace a set on the 1999 model. If the year requires one and you attempt to use one that does not contain the charge, leaving the yellow connector unplugged will cause an SRS event that will hang around in ECU history forever.

Be sure to disconnect the battery and reconnect any yellow plugs when working with any part of the SRS system.

ACE_10 when I looked at the ordering schematics online it seemed like the part number tended to change every one or two years during the first gen series. If you look closely it gives a date range (year&month to year&month) i.e. 199501 to 199609

    Thx.

Local dealer looked up the correct part number for my 1995 with blue grey guts and came up with 73220-04030-B0 for driver's side. Still available. $223 locally sourced. $147 online.
