Jay's Upholstery in Denton, $200 for the driver seat. they have experience doing it. they did a first run, had me test it, then they shaved more at my request. only had the bottom done since that's where my only problem was, my leg going numb, and I'm in a MT so that was a problem. it's basically a bucket seat now and totally comfortable for hours of driving. i do a lot of seat time so I can say for sure this has been consistently right on for me.

you are welcome to check out mine anytime. just pm me.

Man thank you so so much for this information! Do you have the premium package with heated seats and moonroof? How tall are you if you dont mind me asking? Also I'm assuming they had to tighten the leather trim or cloth to make it nice and fitted around the cushion again correct?

I'm a little over 6'1"and have a Pro, so no moonroof. yes the leather goes a little slack where the foam is taken off, so they asked me if i wanted some low density foam on top to take up the slack and look full. i did that and it's super nice.

Right on, sounds like a good shop. Since I have a sunroof I wonder if I could pay them just to tighten the leather and stitch it at the bottom or however they do it. I don't want any more height even if it's low density, Lol. Do you think they could have taken off a little more if you wanted or no?

I probably will take your offer up and buy you a beer or something and check out your see if you wouldn't mind? I go out of town in a few days so maybe sometime when I get back?

Thanks again for the speedy informative replies!!

he helped me a lot but I am in okla and tried going to shop here and never got it right so if you can try his seat out and for sure use same place for they know what they are doing.. When I get my 2020 with power seat if it still needs this I am taking him up on his offer and trying out his seat and if it feels good I will take mine to that place next time and spend the day or 2 in Denton.

happy to share, pm me anytime.

    regarding the slack...
they carved the foam bottom and removed a circle around the the center of where your bottom contacts the seat. the very middle of the circle has almost no foam left, that's about the size of a quarter. there is progressively more foam going outward from there. so depending on what feels right to you, yes there is more foam available for taking.

since i did this i haven't really seen much give in the foam break in since it was done, so I'm a bit inclined to go back for a touch up and height drop for the same reasons, mainly just general comfort for me. i also just prefer a slightly slack feel, so I'm thinking of removing more underneath and the low density stuff on top.

You've made my day/night. I'm going to look into this in the next couple of weeks and have them cover up the white glaring WARNING labels heat glued to the windshield sun visor. Hope they can get an exact match with the OEM interior roof cloth. It feels like that's all my idling mind can pay attention to while driving and makes the cab feel more cramped than it is. If I cover the warning label it feels perfect. Is there anyone you spoke and dealt with I should ask for?

    Thanks again !!

Hope everything works out for you!! I'm sorry you had to go through a shop that didn't know what they were doing, we've all been there and it sucks. I'm curious on how you heard of Jay's Upholstery shop in Denton? How did he help you and are these seat your talking about made by him specifically built for the 3rd gen Tacomas? Will you still have heated seats? I'm sure they could transfer the heating system to his seats without being a safety concern? Forgot to ask, is there anyone you dealt with specifically I should ask for?

Looking forward to hearing your reply and thanks for chiming in!!

I understand the 2020 Taco will have power seats. Not sure if there are any seat design changes though

like I said in another thread, its probably gonna be like the "telescoping" steering wheel and its only gonna move like half and inch up or down. lol

Yeah. I’ve seen a few Taco owners using washers and the like to raise the back of the drivers seat

Test drove a '19 Sport a few days ago and laughed at the limited travel of the telescoping wheel. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the one in my FR-S.

i never took mine to Denton but wish i had. St Germain helped with with trying to describe to the auto upholstery shop i used and they just didnt make it comfortable for me. Seems Jays knows how to do it. i live in different state but next time ill take couple days off if needed. Hopefully the 2020 with power seats will have it not needed.

not sure how helpful this is, but you can see how the drivers isn't as flat as the passenger any longer, the bit of low density foam puffs it up a little bit, but when you sit in it you sink down some and it's really comfortable like that for me. the passenger seat is flat, has no bucket drop, and doesn't give so you don't really sink into it at all, which was just killing my legs and hips. i can drive for probably 5-6 hours straight now w/o issues. pics don't look like much, it's all about how it gives when you sit.

Thread is hilarious. Some people have long legs and some have long toros. You can always get them custom upholstered. They can build a leg extension for you.

Although I kind of get your point, this thread is actually very useful for some. It may be the difference between having healthy adult back posture, to horrible chronic back pain from those long commutes. Having a great shop fabricate your seat(s) for comfort can go a long way. Thanks St.Germain for the pics!
