Where did you find the foam for $125?

Will the seats swap easily? There's got to be something out there.
    I do!
Please let me know how the foam rebuild and Katzkins are! I bought some old TRD seats and will most likely have them recushioned when I order Katzskins.
There has got to be something that fits.
Please report back on the 4R seats!
2"??? How did that affect your visibility?

I will! I'm unemployed so they won't be getting reupholstered for a while but I recently put some recaro's in my FJ40 and couldn't be happier! I don't expect the same level of comfort from the 4runner seats, but I've sat long distance in a 98 4runner Limited before with no complaints.

    Now I'm showing off ;)

    They are Recaro SR3's.

Install was pretty straight forward. Just had to transfer the seatbelt fasteners from the old seats to the new seats and the Planted brackets I got for them. The planted brackets are bolt in and the seats themselves fasten down at 4 seperate locations. I transferred all my old SRS items from the old seats to the new, so I don't have the SRS light illuminated like most who do the swap end up having.

smashed this, broke that, covered it up with tape and paint

how do you measure the space available? to get the right measurments on what seats will fit?
i tried looking at the specs of the 2016 in the Ebrochure and it makes jack shit in sense compared to the measurements offered on most seats like the SR3

like the 2016 said it is specs are
    INTERIOR (front/rear-seat) (in.)
    Head room 39.7/34.9
    Hip room 57.2/51.7
    Leg room 42.9/24.6
    Shoulder room 58.3/56.5

    and then the SR3's say
    Dimensions RECARO SRD/SR3
    Shoulder Width 20.25
    Base Width 17.75
    Leg Bolster Width 19.5
    Hip Bolster Width 20.75
    Height 36
    Deep 18.75

i dont understand how to translate that into space for fit in the truck

the last thing i need is to pay 400$ for a seat and then not be able to get it in the truck

Cut some cardboard pieces the size of the given seat dimensions, and see how they fit in the truck.

sadly the dimensions i posted above are what size BUTT fits in the seat, not what space the seat takes up

this is by far one of the only things ive wanted to do that made me feel so dumb

A bit of googling and reading tells me SRD is the SR back, with a D base.

    002RECARO[1].jpg

and these, in millimeters, are the generic SR (Sport) seat dimensions. the different bases just have different bolsters, they are the same basic footprint.

Don't even worry about that literally almost any aftermarket seat will fit in this truck. I just bought mine blind and they fit great.

I'm curious, if you do swap in Recaros, Corbeau, whatever, and let's say you get in a wreck, get hurt or something, and someone figures out you don't have the OEM seats or seat airbag, what does the insurance company say about that?

I've wanted to put in racing seats for a long time but that hangup always changes my mind.

i've read thru some of the threads, but am not finding any aftermarket options that you can just strap over the existing seats to make them more comfortable. we're going to be doing a drive this spring of about 1800 km one way and my wife has a bad lower back. any recommendations for something i can add to a 2005 base model prerunner passenger seat ? (besides loading up on Robaxacet and Gravol :))

my wife uses a simple lubar pillow that has an elastic strap around the back of the seat.

No I did not raise the rails up at all. It could be done. I, however, saw no reason in doing so. You should do it!

I have had my Katzkin's and added seat foam in for about 8 weeks now and can really tell the difference. The installer said he does lots of tacoma's and everyone complains about a bar at the bottom of the driver's seat hitting their lower back, he installed more seat foam in the lower back area and also in the seat pan area for added comfort. Before I had the work done after an hour of driving I could barely walk when I got out of the truck and now after three hours of driving I feel great. If you are going to do it make sure they use the Katzkin seat heaters, they are great !
