Actually, they fixed it rather quickly when compared to previous recalls by other manufacturers like Ford, for example.

Right away? So I guess you think they should immediately issue a recall when one person complains.

Tell me what exactly is the right time to issue a recall? When one person complains? 10? 100? If any of those choices were the case, every product in the US would be recalled every day.

Yeah, Toyota deserves unwarranted frivolous lawsuits to be filed against them. Only an idiot would think that's a good idea. Or a tort lawyer.

"I'm taking my ball and I'M GOING HOME!"

Your entire debate here was ridiculous. What kind of tool corrects spelling on the interwebz? Seriously.

Just when you think you have met the biggest asshole in the world there is always someone who will pop up and run circles around them.

This is histeria. The public loves it because the media loves feeding it to them. As soon as the media stocks another flavor this will all be over. My truck while not perfect is just what I wanted when I bought it and that has not changed due to the hysteria. Yeah it has a few issues but it's still a great truck.

i believe TM tried to cover something up.

i would not buy a TM car or truck today if i was in the market for something new.

thankfully, a manual transmission covers a lot of ills.

^That's a decision everyone must make for themselves. Of course, many are making the opposite decision from you considering sales have been coming back up recently.

Wow, this thread became pretty entertaining. Living in the Seattle area I can say it doesn't surprise me. The wife probably wanted a 4runner and they feel they're entitled to get what they want at someone else's cost.

Nice work jandrews, nice to see a bit of logic involved in this fiasco.

People are looking for a way to capitalize on Toyota's problems and make a few bucks. Look at the jackalope with the 'runaway' Prius.

I liked basically everything you had to say jandrews.

GM has a recall out right now for power steering failing. Anyone hear about that? Probably not. That's the government's money...so I'm sure they're not gonna let the media cover that as much. Sure, Toyotas may speed out of control (whenever the retard driving it presses the gas and thinks "Hmm...how can I make some money/get some attention/get a new car/get out of a ticket by doing nothing?), but at least you can steer your car around obstacles (or be a smart, logical human being and put it in NEUTRAL). I'm about 99% sure my girlfriend woudln't be able to handle her car if her Cobalt lost power steering. Could that kill someone? Of course. Is everyone from GM going in front of congress to testify? No. Does anyone care about this problem? No. Because the media hasn't covered it.

My girlfriend is the perfect example of ignorant society. She got a letter a week ago about a DIFFERENT GM recall about her fuel lines leaking. "After driving, you may smell gas." The first time she drove after getting that letter, she calls me and says "I smell gas." Now, people get in their Toyotas, press the gas, and say OH CRAP MY CAR'S MOVING!

Moral of the story: Most people are retarded and I hate people.

More specifically, I'm arguing the math. I agree with you, Toyota didn't have a baseline positive game plan, but I think that's because the media would have spun it to keep viewership up. If ToMoCo had said "these incidents are so uncommon that they are statistically the same as random failures or margin of error in the QC process" then people would've been screaming about their QC process.

I just don't think the majority of the news watching public possesses the critical thinking skills to dissect this situation for themselves. That's why Toyota has been running this whole thing like a PR campaign rather than a trial.

    They'd win a trial.

See, it's the terminology I take issue with here. What consistent mechanical failure is there? All I've ever seen, by the numbers, is an inconsistent mechanical failure that is no more likely to occur than, say, a tire blowout, or differential exploding.

I posit an alternative theory...read here:

Better still, people need to understand that unless it's of interest to collectors (custom, restored classic, exotic), a car is NOT AN INVESTMENT. If you're using it as a daily driver, it's a tool which will depreciate in value with use.

If suit succeeds, or gets settled we may well see some sort of class action on behalf of anyone who bought a domestic car in the 80's leveled against the import manufacturers for killing the resale value of Fords/GMs by making better and more durable cars for so many years that many used Chevys were rendered virtually worthless.

Another contribution to Toyota high resale value in previous years was the low(er) numbers of them on the road. I know 10 years ago you couldn't find a used Tacoma to save your life around here, now you can find a dozen 2nd gens easily between dealer lots and local classifieds. It's economics at its simplest with regard to supply and demand. What do you expect to happen to resale of used Toyota's in 3-5 years when all these "new" Toyota's are going to be either traded or sold privately?

Kelly Blue Book can print any price they want, but supply and demand will prevail. 2003-2004 Tacoma's typically sell for more than the 2005-2006 models around here, simply because people want them and there are none to be had. When my Tacoma was 3 years old I was interested in a Tundra and visited two separate dealers. Both offered me $8,000 below book value for my TRD Off Road 4x4 Tacoma because the local market in both areas had plenty of used 2nd gens for sale.

    Time well tell I guess...

If these morons actually win the case does it set a precedent here?
Could you buy shares and sue the compary if the stock falls?

Buy low, sell high. Or buy high, sell low, sue, and repeat.:D
