    neglect, mostly.
a lot of interesting points in the thread. i think $15 is dumb, but it's not THAT big a deal.

from the micro stand point, yes there will be problems. will fast food and the like go up in price? yes. but will the unqualified 16 year old or drop out be making that money and cooking your burger? no. for fifteen bucks an hour, out of work contractors, deactivated military and the like will happily be standing in line for that job. the people that petitioned so hard for that increase in wage will be the ones that end up without work because the people hiring will be hiring the best help that will work for that wage. that's just how it works.

from the macro standpoint, especially in the grandest scheme of things where $15 an hour becomes a national thing, it wont matter at all. our dollar isn't backed by a thing and changes value at the people and economies choosing. if the lowest get paid $15 an hour, everybody pays more, and yes more money goes in to the economy, but also everything goes up in price. the dollar wont get strengthened by just giving the lowest workers more money. it will all fizzle back out and you'll be paying 2 bucks for a can of coke, ... and you wont mind.

just a different perspective to throw out there to ya.

My parents were hard core depression kids, my dad was one of 13 growing up on a farm in Kansas, my mom was born & raised in Oklahoma (dust bowl) This of course was before any kind of Social services, in the city you had bread lines, soup kitchens (ketchup soup) apple carts in the streets, very tough times, the likes that myself & any of you have never had to deal with....

Point is back then everyone had to & was expected to "carry their own water", fend for themselves & family... This mindset & grit were the seeds of what the U.S. became for a period, but something changed it all in the 60's & along with the protests & demonstrations calling for change in our society came an explosion within the gov. of agencies created with regards to social services/welfare whatever you want to call it, which anyone with 2 eyes can see that over the years the whole system put in place for these services has grown to be nothing more than a slow lumbering, clumsy inefficient beast that consumes more resources than it ever creates, & it just wants more, we have become slaves to a system of gov. that will NEVER roll itself back to a time of commonsense & respect for the tax payers $$$ & how its spent. It will just continue to grow like a malignant tumor until its cut out or it finally kills us all as a stable functioning society... Rome is burning my friends, now I know this has nothing to do with Seattles issue on min. wage but theres a much bigger picture here for all to see if only they'd open their eyes & their minds with objectivity....

For the record, when I entered the labor force, min. wage was $1.65 an hour

My opinion. Well, I don't make $15.00 and hour, and don't get benefits..... Seems like I should be able to make more than a burger flipper....

My wife's agency runs group homes for mentally challenged adults..some are high functioning, other end of it is Down's syndrome. The higher functioning folks at best can work part time so they can never be independent financially or not need someone to help them at home. Those people won't just go away.

My grandmother had a similar saying..every kettle rests on it own bottom. We all contributed in some way big or small in my house growing up. When I was mowing lawns to make $$, I was also helping with my own. Now and then my folks would throw me a little cash if I was saving for something big but it was never expected, I did it because it was my fair share.

They live in the home, so they are the agency's responsibility all yr round to a degree, but I see what you mean. If the families bring them out for a few hrs not so much directly but even then there still has to be staff in the houses..

Maybe & maybe not Cody. Read the text of the rule, not every person or every job or every business will qualify or be required to comply. Kinda make one wonder why the creators of the ordinance thinks some are worthy of it and some are not.
