I think it depends on what your are doing in manufacturing. And if you apply yourself. The problem is not that someone does or doesn't deserve more but forcing a company to pay their people more will only increase the costs of products which will have an effect on sales. If sales drop then profits drop and the unskilled or skilled but easily relocated jobs are easy kills.

Why do you think cars are made below the border?

    BINGO!

It's called work for a reason. If you want more money work harder and it will come. People need to be encouraged to work, not rewarded for laziness.

In France I've heard they have terminals where you order and pay with a credit/debit card. So that will cut the staff in half.

Hong Kong and Switzerland have no minimum wage and low unemployment. They are also prosperous.

Wasn't planning on it, but given how much better armed we are up here versus my southern BC friends (of which I have many) I'm okay if one starts ;)

Actually, I keep on trying to get my southern friends to see just how awesome Northern BC is. It is spectacular! We have a massive territory with multiple mountain ranges. If you start at 100 mile house and head north it is a land mass the size of France, Belgium, and Holland combined with a population around a half million (mostly concentrated in small city centres). You have to see it to understand the amazing and sparsely populated territory. A territory that is perfectly suited to a well equipped Tacoma.

You're talking to me like I don't know anything about BC

Everyone needs to realize that this is Seattle only and not a lot of the outlying cities or incorporated areas. Those that know the area know what communities this affects. This isn't King County.

There are a lot of communities within Seattle (Ballard, Greenlake, West Seattle, Rainier Valley, Georgetown, Beacon hill, Queen Anne, Capitol Hill, Northgate, etc.) There is a good number of high profile businesses in the area too. Starbucks, Tully's, Amazon, F5, Cray supercomputers, Darigold, Mikes Hard, Trident Seafoods, PopCap, Classmates, RealNetworks, Penny Arcade, Whitepages, Zillow, Vigor Shipyards, Nordstrom, and a small airline company you may know as Boeing (HQ in Chicago but the plant is in Seattle city limits).

If those businesses aren't paying minimum wage , why would they be moving due to an increase in minimum wage ?

Still gottta pay the mail clerks, receptionists and low level apprentice workers.

Brand loyalty is all that can be equated to. Stuff tastes like tecate and I'd rather give up beer in it's entirely than be forced to drink 1 yuengling.

With the flavor fullness of other beers out there and my home brewing quality! Not a chance in hell but rest assured, not one of my pennies will be spent on a subpar quality beer like coors, bud, corona or yuengling.

And chain stores will increase prices nation-wide to cover the increased costs in the relatively few states that will pass this stupidity.
Fast food franchises will likely be one of the few exceptions... I see 10-20% difference in prices between fast food places in the same city, much less different states, but franchises are franchises and the owner sets the prices, not corporate.
