I dunno, I agree a lot with what the Tx gov. says, I dont think there will be an open revolt/revolution anytime soon, and I dont know how I'd react to it either. Like all military guys, I took the oath and it still holds true even though I am honorably discharged. I think states declaring sovreignty to protest the federal govt is a great idea, but secession may be an extreme answer.

everyone wants "change" but not that many are happy with how obama is doing it or how washington is being run in general. Lots of folks want to take a stand against big govt. but dont realy know how to go about it. That's why Rick Perry was saying that Texas would just secede to get away from it. If every governor would say that and actualy take a stand against the pres and washington maybe then they would listen...but probably still wouldnt

I hate the term Secede, Lets just put it out there and say seperate, cuz thats what we are trying to do, seperate ourselves from the USA. I hope we do seperate, our goverment has become to controlling, and u know what if we seperate there will be more states to follow.

Agreed. "Change" is a marketing term that was used to great success during the last round of presidential campaigns...and it was so successful because everyone could write in their preferred change. Hence why the Obama campaign was able to bridge to so many demographics.

And yes, it is VERY hard to take a stand against big government when both parties are in favor of it and expand the government when they are in power. About your only options are the Green party or Libertarians, and they come with their own challenges.

First of all, please realize Rick Perry is blowing smoke to please his constituents. He has no intention of seceding, but wouldn't mind if many Texas voters thought he had it on the table.

Second, and I'm just curious here, take a stand against what? And I'm talking specifics, not just media buzzwords, because many of the items on Obama's agenda that have right-wingers up in arms were perpetrated by the Bush administration as well. People see what they want to see.

as for "taking a stand" I'm talking about the ridiculous spending, govt health care, the "under the table" deals that several states got in order for them to vote "yes" on health reform. There are just to many crooked politicians in our country that are in it to get what they can for themselves.

I only posted the link b/c I thought they were neat and had some interesting info. I am no master debater like some of you guys:eek:

They're all the same, even Mr. Perry. He didn't make any "deals" for health reform but I'm sure he has for other things. They're all owned and/or corrupt to some degree. If they weren't, they wouldn't be sitting in office. It takes some slick work to even get to where those guys are.

Every presidential administration since and including Reagan has increased spending every year. Every single one of them. So you are absolutely correct on that.

As for government health care, that's something that's absolutely needed. The research is stupid clear on this, every other developed country in the world has better quality health care than we do in the US. And they all have government administered systems. Health care only becomes fair and modern when it's administered like a right, not a privelege. And sound health drastically reduces costs in other areas.

Also, you may not have noticed, but there isn't any government healthcare in the US outside of Medicare and Medicaid. And both of those programs have existed for decades. The current reform package just restructured the way private health insurance companies do business, but it won't solve the heart of the problem, which is private insurance companies killing people for money.

I am a master 'bater. Sometimes. My advice to you though, and this is good advice in ANY part of your life, is don't form a strong opionion on something before you've read up on the facts. And I don't mean watching idiots on CNN or Fox News or MSNBC spout bullshit. They're all conning you, not informing you.

Texas seceding would spell trouble for the rest of the nation.

There really aren't any other states who have such great geography (resources/ accessibility), infrastructure, and economy.

I would love for my tax dollars to stop going to a national government for "redistribution" to other states who's governments aren't competent enough to provide for themselves.

Texas sees it's fair share of Federal dollars, but there is a huge difference between receiving federal aide and being awarded government contracts, lol.

If Texas seceded from the union and no longer had the support of the US Federal Gov't, Armed Forces, and INS it would be part of Mexico in about a week and a half.

Looney militias aside, it would be opening the Latino floodgates. Hell, Central/South Americans already immigrate through Texas like crazy right now when there are consequences to getting caught. Remove those consequences and imagine what would happen...especially with that wonderful economy you have!

You'd better be quiet, dude. People are going to realize that you actually know what you're talking about...:)

It's nice to see someone on here who actually gets the concept of fact-finding, education and rational thought processes instead of the usual knee-jerk reactionary posts. Kudos.

    This is great.

I can only imagine the looks on Stalin or Mao's faces if they were around to hear Obama called a Socialist. They're rolling in their graves at how diluted their philosophies have become.
