the 2nd generation tacos needed backlit door lock and window control switches. After looking around on too many websites and forums for a plug and play way to light up the door handles, locks and window control switches, I decided to just go do something approach. It has got to be better than darkness in the cab. Here is what got installed.
The removal of the window control switches from the door panels is relatively easy. I purchased some small dot LEDs from superbrightleds.com. I picked the amber color to match dash lighting. the LEDs come with small adhesive pads on the backside. So I just stuck the led beside the switch where it needed to be, to light up the area around the switch. I got all 4 doors done for $30 DSCN5497.jpg DSCN5498.jpg DSCN5497.jpg DSCN5498.jpg DSCN5495.jpg . There is a small light on each door handle, one on the LH and RH door lock button and one on each door window controller.

It doesnt look anything like a factory install but it looks OK and it is very functional.

If you tap the power circuit to the power window motor to each door you get them to turn on at unlock.

I tapped into the white wire power to the window controller. So if the key is on, the LEDs on the door handles, locks and window switches are lit up. The added bonus I didn't realize at the time, is that when turn the key off and LEDs remain lit up until you open the door to exit the car.
