    Hello Tacoma World,
Paul here and I have 2002 Tacoma extended cab stepside and I want to get some new rims for it because the stock rims are wearing away and look nasty (seems to be a problem with this generations Rims). I want to purchase 2nd generation Tacoma rims like the ones in the link below but I am concerned about the wheels hitting the frame because of the back spacing. Has anyone else tried to put 2nd generation rims on a first generation? If so how has it worked out? Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thank you

Yes it's been done, heck I've even seen 3rd gen wheels on a 1st gen.

They will work fine with no rub depending on what size tire you run. I have those exact wheels on my 99'.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I think all 6 lug wheels are interchangeable, you can run 6 lug Chevy wheels as well.

Well yeah but it will depend on the backspacing, heck I'm driving on hummer wheels. The right way to say it is most 6 lug Toyota wheels will work - and as long as the hub diameter is 106mm you're good which is why gm wheels work.

GM is 108mm so they are not hub centric, best to stick with Toyota wheels for that reason.

I had 17" 2nd gen wheels on my 01 and they fit fine, the tire did sit really close to the UCA but did not rub, They get sucked in about an inch with the backspacing

Some are. I guess the hub bore varies through the years and make/model. My H3s were 100mm, so really you can make anything work for the price.

The 108mm will bolt right up, no extra cost, but they would be lug centric, you can get 106mm-108mm hubcentric rings for a better fit

That would be the only way to go, I'd rather walk than drive on lug centric wheels.

I've got 2nd-gen TRD Off-Road wheels on mine and they fit fine, I'm running 265/70R16's and have about a half-inch of room between my UCA and tire. There is more positive offset for sure but they look good and don't give me any issues.

I had 17" TRD Sport rims on mine for about a year. Started w/ no spacer and the tire was about 1/2" from the UCA. Added 1.5" spacers and they looked great! I've since gone to a 16" 4Runner wheel from an '02 limited and no spacers. I changed because I like the look of the 4Runner wheels over the 2nd gen TRD Sports.

Baja wheels from a later model Tacoma. No spacers and no rub. Drives fine.

I have 16X7 from a 2003 4 Runner. I need .75 spacers (ordered already) due to lack of proper backspacing. Still, looks 100 times better than the factory TRD rims!

I have those on my first gen (painted black.) With 265/75 r16 Duratracs it rubbed bad on the upper control arm when at full drop and rubbed the frame at full lock. With my new 265/70 r16 Grabbers it still rubs the frame a little at full lock. These have a half inch less back space than stock.

For those who have made the change, how much is the mileage hit going from 15" to 265/75r16s? How much difference on the speedometer? My son has 31's on his Tacoma. The OEM wheels look terrible and he'll need new tires soon. I noticed few tire choices in 31x10.5x15 tires. ...And there's a nice set of second gen wheels on CL near me.
