It's not "just a catalytic converter" though. That, and any other possession, represents time and effort. They aren't stealing "stuff" but portions of the victim's life that they spent doing something they'd rather not do in order to get the money to buy that "stuff." Then there is the loss of transportation, hardship for the family as a result, etc. I'm sorry, but if you choose to steal you are scum. The ONLY exception to this is theft of food to survive. Anything else stolen is inexcusable and we are way too soft on thieves.

People who steal deserve punishment. "No bail" because career thieves cannot afford the cash is a disease of liberal DAs, but must be handled within the law and by voting them out of office. Giving into uncontrolled reactionary response is why American cities have sections which are burned out husks ... failure to think and respond responsibly. I hope you can learn some of this long before you find yourself on the wrong end of the legal system.

First, get off your high horse and quit preaching as though you have some great knowledge the rest of us need to learn. You don't know me, what I know, or how I handle any situation. Assuming you do is foolish.

I abide by the law. I'm just saying that the laws can change. If there were a terrible consequence for theft, like a severe beating, caning, or property owners were allowed to defend their property it would curb the "more honest" thieves. A true criminal will do what they do regardless, as you cannot legislate people into being moral. Handicapping the average citizen from defending themselves and their hard earned property hasn't worked well, but when the victim has been prioritized before the one committing the crime it curbs the basic thugs.

In this moment, I wish I had the capability of locking this dumpster fire before feelings are hurt and moderators get involved.

Nothing has crossed the line, and mods are aware I'm sure. They are everywhere. :spy:

Shutting down discussions is how people wind up tribalized and unwilling to compromise.

you can hook into the glass breakage sensor an additional shock sensor and place under the center console close to the bolts holding the parking brake
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GJMITB0
You can adjust the sensitivity and get it to trigger when someone is cutting your cats with an oscillating head against the pipe near the cats.
i wouldn't advise doing it directly against the cat.

May want to tie your rock lights to your parking light circuit so that they flash when the alarm goes off. Add a few blue and red lights, gets cali cops attention fast, they don't like it when other ppl use their colors.

That's a bummer man. This is going on everywhere, in Denver it's really bad. Maybe it's time to get a cat shield.

Yup. It's the actual material theft as well as ancillary damage if wiring etc is messed up (seen it happen). Plus it's the time without the vehicle, missed time from work etc as you said. Makes me ill.

I gotta say that itching powder idea is pure gold.

Yup. I figure it this way; my time is worth at a minimum what my hourly wage is and my personal time outside of work is worth a minimum of whatever my OT rate is. Say you have a $50 per hour OT rate and a $500 deductible on your insurance. You now have to work enough to pay that deductible at a minimum. That's 10 hours of your OT rate that the thief stole from you. If you figure it at a $33.33 regular hourly rate (that is what would get you to the $50 OT rate) then it's 15 hours they've stolen. That's if you make pretty decent money for most parts of the country. If you are working for $15-$20 per hour then it's even more of your life that thief has stolen. It's so much more than "just stuff" as the bleeding hearts and idealists try to say.
