That actually doesn’t sound that crazy. It make more sense than the second one failing too.

I think I would notice if the wheels were spinning in snow that much. plus it would only spin when in 2wd which is why I had in 4wd so it would grip better. Not once did it rev way up in 4wd too much. And it was all regular roads just snow covered only went in a dirt sledding hill parking lot to drop my brother off. Toyota is trying to pin this on me. Like wut??

Im not sure if any of you guys have been reading from the start but this is not my stock transmission. My stock one just had the same issue where it started to slip in higher gears and I took it straight to Toyota and they said it was killed so they replaced under warranty with no issue and the neutral safety switch was covered as well. That was done in NC then I drove the truck home to NJ where after going to Wyoming I came back a drove the truck a few times and then it happened again and now this is where I am. They never came up with a real reason why this happened either.

The guy suggested to trade it in after they fixed it. but that was before Toyota did not approve the warranty replacement even though a replacement transmission has a one year warranty. Now they are telling me to get it towed from Toyota. Plus they tried to get the Toyota dealership in NC to pay for the new one it needs (the ones who put the second transmission on) they obviously sad no and now they want me to pay for it. This is so frustrating.

My 2 local dealers both messed up, 1 left my oil cap off. 2nd manged to put my cabin air filter in sideways . Despite printed arrows all over them. And left the filters little snapshut hatch open. I do my own shit.

Does that even matter? I got that K&N one and it fits the same either way, and it has no arrows.

There is no data logging system in your truck. The front wheels do not drive the tcase, the trans does, so the front wheels cant "out spin" the trans and "blow it up". The only way that they could prove it was front wheel spin would be from the abs sensors in the hub, but like I say there is no data logging.

I have had these tcases apart a lot of times and there is no way that I can picture the front output spinning fast enough to ruin the trans.

But none of that helps you. They can just say "we dont care, and stand by our diagnosis" and you have no real recourse.

Honestly I would have traded it in after the first trans was replaced.

There is something causing the transmission to fail, these are generally solid transmissions. I've beat on my 07 pretty hard over the years, snow donuts, been stuck in mud, and towed way more than these trucks are rated to tow. If excessive front wheel spin was causing transmissions to fail, my transmission would have died years ago. The dealership is either incompetent or they think you are. These trucks have a 5 year/60k powertrain warranty, make them fix it. If it does it again, start the process of having it declared a lemon if your state allows it, the lemon law varies depending on where you live.

Can you post scans of the Toyota paperwork?

This stuff is too serious for them to only be giving you verbal feedback/rejection.

Just a wild guess, but wondering if the truck is titled in someone else's name? If so, it could be good for them to be leading the charge on this.

That's lack of detail for you, I was changing my cabin filter yesterday and found the same thing. Vehicle is new to me and serviced by a dealership. Unfortunately, because they did not follow the arrows, it got stock. Was able to get out with a little force, but come on, it should not be that difficult!

Precisely. If they cant do the simple things. Had my headliner replaced under warranty, the screw covers that say srs airbag have gouges in them from tech being rushed. Reinstalled my seat pinching my husky matts, theyre permanently bent now.

    Bingo !!
When the neutral safety switch goes bad , its very common for the ecm to set a code . Once the code is set , you wont get either overdrive gear ( 4th and 5th ) until you have it fixed or the code clears .

They cant say " NO" if it has been under a year
wheel spin in snow cooks the lower transmission gears .
When you get stuck in the snow , there is a possibility of overheating the transmission because you are not moving quick enough to cool the transmission .
I suggest a second opinion at a transmission shop . Some shops even offer a free diagnostic

You need to post up what the dealership did
Are you interested to find out whats been done to your truck while it was on warranty or another owner ?
Type in your VIN # and see what,s been done to your truck at the dealership

From what I understand he's only been on the highway for the most part, if all he's done is the occasional slip on the highway there is no chance that he hurt his transmission doing that. These transmissions are hard to overheat, even in the summer. When it's cold out my transmission rarely gets over 100°. 120-130°F tops. I still wanna see where they either flushed or replaced the radiator and auxiliary atf coolers and cooler lines. Failure to properly clean up the mess from the first failure can cause the new unit to fail.... I know @gearcruncher knows this, I'm not fussing at him.

I have a hard time believing that this transmission failed after only 2,000 miles, an electrical issue or pcm/ecm issue seems more likely to me.

We had a diesel engine that was running poorly in a tractor recently, the dealership diagnosed it as a failing injection pump, so they replaced (rebuilt by outside company) it, we brought it home, it was still doing it. They sent it back and had it rebuilt again... brought it home, still doing it.... we take it back for a third go around... they want to put a brand new injection pump on it at a price of 3k. Nope, it's not the injection pump, it has to be something else... so they finally agreed to put their wiring specialist on it... there was a short in a two foot section of the wiring harness. All along it was a $40 problem. They helped us out on the cost of the 2 injection pump rebuilds, but it still cost us a lot. Most of your techs at the dealership (of any kind) don't know much and like to throw parts at things and hope it solves the problem.
Don't let them bully you into paying for something that is covered under warranty. Call Toyota Corporate and let them know what's up, be polite but let them know you aren't pleased. Dealerships don't like having corporate on their backs.

We are doing exactly that. Corporate has told we will get an answer by the end of today. It has to be something else but the transmission that causing all these issues. They also took pictures of the truck; of the snow that underneath, one of the reasons they said for the failure was that there was snow caught underneath the vehicle, (we got over six inches) there was less snow on this truck than my dads Audi. who knew that snow can cause transmission failures.
I just want them to get to the bottom of this so it won't happen again and they can learn from things like this if they would find the actually issue. they keep insisting it needs a new transmission.

    thanks for the help all.

You need to request all the paper work and any diagnostic work that was performed on your truck from the dealership performing the repairs .
Brand new transmissions last longer than 2K
Post up the diagnostics ...we can help
What were the codes ? any lights lit up on the dash with the first transmission or the 2nd trans for that matter ?
Computers dont lie and these transmissions are completely computer controlled .
Ask the dealership what codes were stored in memory
If the transmission is as bad as they say , there will be codes stored in memory
Glad to hear Corp is now involved

I just asked for the codes and exactly what the diagnosis was on the transmission. The only thing they ever said was that it is slipping which it cannot be the computer which is why they told me I need a new transmission.

No lights on the dash either time.
