Second Transmission at 48,000 miles FAIL

Maybe re-read post 51 and share a response...........

 

OK , no lights on the dash is fine .
The first thing a dealership technician does is connect to the computer when diagnosing transmission issues .
What were the codes ?
How did they come to the conclusion that the transmission is faulty ? There has got to be codes stored in memory .
If the transmission slips twice in one ignition cycle , beleive me , there are codes stored
Transmissions will slip if the fluid is low . Did they manually check the fluid or just assume it was properly filled by the last dealership ?
These are things to ask them ...dont give up .
Need to see some diagnostic paperwork at this point

What,s the dealership worried about ? they get paid for warranty work .

 

...and not to mention if it was installed within the past 12 months the labor and parts are fully covered under the original service cost or warranted work. (as someone else has also so kindly stated)

 

Did we already get clarity on how many miles are on this truck?

EDIT: 48k?!!?! You're covered under the factory powertrain warranty. Period. It would be very difficult for them to refuse you coverage as long as the vehicle doesn't show direct signs of obvious abuse.

 

The high revs and slamming into gear sounds familiar. Mine did that and also wouldn't go into overdrive at about 52k miles. I also tried to back up after a long trip (1 hours) and just didn't have reverse.

They changed the valve body and I haven't had a problem since. It does sometimes not want to go into OD if it's really cold outside... but that's probably me driving without giving the truck a proper warm up.

 

You wont get overdrive unless the transmission is up to proper temp .

 

That link is expired I think and I have an account but not sure where to find the codes about the truck. The service history is just what was stated that broke and what the fix and cost was. nothing about diagnostics.

Toyota has to prove that you were the cause of the transmission failure .
They cant just say the front tires were spinning too fast causing the failure .
They are feeding you a line of crap
If you can still drive the truck , Got any other dealerships in your area ?
What are you not telling us ?
There should be zero issues posting up the diagnsotics

After we hear from Toyota Corp. by the end of today they have basically the final decision. We will have to see what they say before making any other decisions. its been a week since they've the truck in their shop.

 

The TC won't lockup until the engine coolant gets to 140°F.

 

The service report from the first transmission.

 

Nothing online about the truck since its last service which was before the new year. and nothing about this second transmission issue.

 

human (as in mechanic) error, Toyota should replace at N/C, good luck

Where's the detailed write up that the dealer produces?

 

Im not sure they even have ever done a detailed write up. They only ever just give me a copy of the invoice.

 

Corporate toyota has made their final decision that after investigating the tacoma that the reason for the failure was that there was snow packed under the truck and owner abuse. and they are not covering anything under warranty.
Im done with Toyota after this. this is the worst service ever.

the truck was not abused at all and I don't see how snow can cause the transmission to fail. maybe overheated but there was not that much snow. the proof they showed us was low quality photos from under the truck of snow.

 

Post up the paperwork that Toyota gives you. To be honest I'm skeptical about your entire story.

 

Toyota denied a warranty claim by showing you a picture of snow under your truck? How did they get this picture? Did you provide it? You need to get a lawyer, this sounds ridiculous.
