Why don’t you get us some dyno results and solve it? You can’t obstruct an airway with a filter and not have a reduction in horsepower. It’s the very basics of engine performance.

Did you notice any improvement in fuel economy?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread here, but was a consensus ever reached? I'm all about incremental horsepower gains, no matter how small

    No gain.

FWIW. Air flow restriction is based on the air speed and the cross-section area of the flow path. These trucks have very large intake cross-section permitting a very large flow area. This means the air speed ahead of the throttle body is very low. The restriction is very low.

Once upon a millennia ago, the engine in my ride was a 455 cubic inch V-8. This engine gulped air and fuel. The air filter housing had a snorkel on the can with perhaps a 6 square inch opening. Much higher restriction.

Today's intake systems are very sophisticated, designed for maximum performance and economy.

Sure, you could completely alter the intake system on the Taco. Although, I doubt if you will see much in actual real gains. I'm sure the butt dyno and the ear will say, "Yep, gots loads more power. Good I yanked out the restrictive charcoal filter."

Do as you wish. I'm sure your seat dyno will provide the data you desire.
