oh you were clear and I was the exact same way and expressed this to toyota that I was going to trade mine in if I had to pay anything. Being as I have owned 2 Tacomas and a Tundra I thought this would spark interest. dealt with toyota corp (just as you are beginning to do) and got nowhere after 4 weeks of my truck sitting and getting rides to work everyday. The last conversation I had with them they showed me where I stood and even though I told them I was going to trade that weekend I knew I was bluffing cause I was just about to install the Bypass and it be cheaper than any trade in, plus I know these trucks are well made and will last it is just this stupid system they put on them in 2012 is the problem. Good luck dealing with them, I only had 49,000 miles and that is less than 60K and it was just a basic waste of my time and effort. At least we both have it logged as a problem and the more that do that the better. The hours I have spent on the phone with them, driving to and from the dealership and getting rides is way more valuable than $350 and is why I just bite the bullet and bought the bypass. It is very sad Toyota is letting it come to this but I thank God there was a cheaper fix as I am tight on $$ right now with a newborn and the wife staying home there was no way I was spending $2,500-$3,000 on this fix.

PS if over 30,000 miles (out of warranty for this part being covered unless in a emissions state) you have a better chance seeing a unicorn than them covering it 100%.
Even if they goodwill it and cover 45-50% it is still cheaper to bypass it and not fix it again in the future (at least that is the way I was looking at it)

I hope it all works out for you trade in or no trade in.
    keep us updated and goodluck.

    I own a 2011 also.
The 2012 has been a problem from day one.

Depends on how they handle it today...
I may go buy another truck, be it chevy or Ram but not Toyota bases on the past few days and how they handled this truck from the start

I have a few contracts in hand to trade with value on a new Ram and also from another that is an offer and contract to order a truck....
I will be able to show them that and then move on.
They will do or not do something today, wed at the latest or I will pick up the truck and drop at dealer for trade or sale and move on. If I order a new truck it will take 6 to 8 weeks so I may order the valves on line and install my self but not the pump.

Well the way I see it, the more we complain, the more other people know about the issue .. the more they complain, etc and so on.

I will talk more about it later when I get the truck back....

Got to hand it to the dealer and Toyota for seeing a problem and stepping up to the plate.....

I feel better driving this truck and leaving the Taco badge on it for the time being.

Dont know what the Chevy dealer will say when I talk to them.
They wanted to buy it as is to place on the lot with the quote and list if repairs, cost and so on due to low miles.

Do the Gen 3's use the air injection system?

    Too few to list.
I know the 4cyl's have it but I don't think the new 3.5L V6 has it. I did a parts search and it didn't list anything for the 3.5.

I don't think the gen 3's do, they might be efficient enough to meet the standards w/o it. A.I.R. system is more of a stop gap measure to meet current emission specs on an older engine, hence why it started in 2012 and previous 4.0 didn't have it. Emissions got stricter, Toyota wasn't ready to change engine yet so installed this system. 4runners have it as well and the 4cylinder tacos though I haven't seen where people have issues with those vehicles. Maybe we should be looking into another valve that will bolt up to ours but be more reliable.

That might be a different issue. You may have an issue with a wheel speed sensor. Can you switch to 4 wheel drive? If no, then its the WSS. The tech may have damaged one when working on the air injection system. Both systems are ridiculously fragile.

    Sounds like the truck is.

Was not showing a code yesterday and then on startup it kicks a code first thing.....
What tie does the wheel sensor have with the air pump?
Why would they both use the same code?

Sounds like toyota is the problem and this is just one of them with this truck....

    It is official.
This truck has been in the shop longer, cost more, taken more time, kicked more codes in 60k than any other truck I have owned and put more than 150 to 180k on......

And it only has 62 k

Is It normal as soon as you fix one thing, something else will break on a truck with 60 odd k miles?

But to test your thought, it will go in and out of 4x4 just fine.
    Looks like faulty parts....

They said they would get on it as soon as it showed up getting towed in...
They sent a driver to get it and drive it in after saying it was unsafe and needed to be towed.
    6 hrs later and crickets..

Was my first Toyota, will be my last one and if we can keep it from throwing codes it will be traded asap.

Anyone know anything about the purge valve that is in the system at the valves and air pump.
Is that what detects the pulse from the valve control?
He said it was different codes but they same system.

Did you make several calls to Toyota, call the MRG of the dealer and service management. ...
    Always helps
