Don't confuse a dealership with Toyota. Why are so many people getting different results with this whole ordeal? Some on here are getting everything covered, some have to cove labor costs and others are getting zero help. I'd call Toyota customer care. They have known about this problem and started replacing the parts midway through production of the 2012's.

    @DVexile

So my tech said that there was no signs of corrosion in the valves and the best they can figure it was just a defective part. The pump was fine, but they decided to replace the whole system anyway.

The nice thing is, I've known this guy for almost 20 years, so I'm glad to have a reputable diagnosis instead of someone I don't know telling me this.

I won't be able to pick the truck up for about 4 hours so if you have anything else that you want me to inquire about, youve got a slight window.

Thanks for following up! That's very useful information for everyone trying to sort through what vehicles are affected by what problems. Sounds like your issue while with the same system as the 2012's was a different root cause. Also sounds like it had nothing to do with the filter getting sucked into the pump either (which has happened on a later model than the 2012 but seems rather a rare occurrence so far).

Glad they took care of the problem for you. And glad to hear it was a competent tech working on it - that's useful info too.

Hope you are trouble free for a long time now!

So is there a consensus for the fix of the stuck valves? Just replace the whole assembly? I saw a lot of absurd numbers for dealer quotes, and i'm not really interested in that nonsense. I read through most of the thread but got a little mixed up as one does with these super long threads, so i don't think i saw the actual fix. If it's there i do apologize for any redundancy. I have a 2012 TRD Sport Tacoma crew cab with 99200 mi.

One of the threads about the valves (there's several going on now) has a write up where a member used a tundra valve assembly, took it apart, and combined/installed it on the Tacoma with good results. If I recall, there was a Dorman PN listed. The valve he used was a different design (reed valve) but accomplished the same thing.

Edit: here's a link to that thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-air-injection-system-p2440-and-p2442.480436/

Well after updating my 2012 trucks ecm, i have not noticed if the pump runs after shut off. Was hoping that they threw it in an update lol. Anyone know how long after shut off the 13s pump comes on?

The 13's pump runs immediately after shut off. If you're listening for it you'll notice it.

Well damn. I can confirm then, there are no updated flashes from Toyota to make the pump run like it does in the 13s. Guess I will just keep throwing caves at it until there is a full delete not a trick to bypass It

I just installed the bypass from Hewitt technologies. In my 2012 dclb. And everything is back to normal. Saved myself that expensive dealer cost to fix it. Happy so far.

Glad to hear it worked. I'll be ordering that kit shortly. Any tips for the install? Did you run that single purple wire?

Where did you run the purple wire? I looked over the instructions and it talked about testing where you splice before you splice. I don't have the tool to test. Do you mind explaining what you did with the wire?

I ran it back to the starter relay in the fuse box. It's a simple install.

Add me to the mix 2012 dbcb 4*4 sport. I just ordered new valves and will do it myself.
I ordered them from a link on one of the earlier pages. 447 shipped

just got the hewitt tech bypass installed this weekend. truck runs like a champ again. toyota really needs to get their shit together because truck going limp on the highway while everyone is zooming past you doing 80 while you're struggling to do 40 is dangerous AF

maybe you should contact a major network informing them of the potential life or death accident that could happen when this unnecessary limp mode comes to on.

First time on here. Thank you all for the information you have posted!! 2012 trd off road p2442 with 63k. Toyota would not do anything, the guy said he has not seen any other complaints regarding this, just FYI. I'm it's bull shit. But just some info, since all of yours has been very helpful.
