Being an internal (Toyota) document I can't share it and it's too new to be on the website or published anywhere.

Do you know if they will be offering reimbursements for those that had to pay for parts/repair before this came into effect? Any number we can call or document# to reference if we call Toyota. Glad to see Toyota is finally stepping up.

    Thanks!

If you've previously paid for the repair to address the condition mail a copy of the ro, proof-of-payment and proof-of-ownership for reimbursement consideration:

    Toyota Customer Experience Center -TSR
    Toyota Motor Sales USA
    P O Box 259001 - SSC/CSP Reimbursements
    Plano, Texas 75025-9001

The customer name, address and telephone number should be included in the request. Allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

Man thanks so much for this! I have had that receipt filed away waiting for Toyota to own up on this! I'm Guessing a copy of my registration will suffice for proof of ownership.

I wonder if along with the CSP there will finally be an ECU update for the 2012 similar to the 2013+ to run the pump on shutdown.

Dealers will. It's up to us to open, read, and understand. I just knew of this thread and shared as soon as I read it.

Had a question regarding this. There are times where I simply have to move my truck from one spot to another at home. I start the truck, move it to another spot, then shut it off. I do hear the pump running for a few seconds then it shuts off. Is it only supposed to run for a couple of seconds upon shut down the engine on cold starts, or every single time, even when the truck is at operating temp? I have a 2012 as well.

The tech instructions don't have anything for an ECU reflash but there is a cover that's getting installed over the valve. [IMG]

Not by my truck now (a 2015) to check for sure but pretty sure 2013+ run the pump on every shutdown - even when at temp for a long time. If I understand the intent correctly by doing this they are purging the system and especially the area around the valves with fresh air. Otherwise (like on the 2012 model and early Tundras as well) when you shut down even a hot engine that area is surrounded by hot exhaust gasses that contain and enormous amount of water vapor (the exhaust is mostly CO2 and water vapor). When that exhaust cools a lot of moisture condenses out of it. Running the pump gets that very moist exhaust air out of there and replaces it with drier fresh air.

I think in the 2012 case what you might be hearing is just the typical cycle of the pump that runs on cold starts and presumably when you shut off the engine is still running for a bit? I don't have a 2012 to know.

And again - I might be understanding the exact behavior and why they are running it after shutdown on 2013+

So they are listing the pump cover as part of the fix? I always though the cover was there for noise reduction of the pump. I know they started adding them in 2013 and up trucks. Hard to thing the cover could solve any issue with the valves..who knows. I always thought it was because the 2012's didn't cycle the pump after shutdown to evacuate moisture.

I seriously doubt a cover will have any impact on valve function. Maybe they are just adding them also for cosmetic reasons.

Whatever the reason I am just glad they are taking responsibility for the problem.

Thank you for sharing this. When do dealers get informed of this? Just threw codes 2440 and 2442 today and this is really encouraging. I am going to make an appointment ASAP and hoping to have this covered without reimbursement.

This CSP program is the real deal. All Toyota dealers have this letter now as I saw it with my own two eyes at the service department. I made my appointment today, the only thing for me is that I cleared the codes (of course, how can you drive the dang thing in limp mode??) so now the dealer is saying they can’t fix it unless the codes are there. The issue is one of safety: what happens if the CEL gets tripped again and I’m on the highway? Isn’t this a safety issue? How long till I can expect this CEL light to pop back up?

If you get a CEL light, dont clear it and go right to the dealer and they will fix this for free: new diverter valve, new pump and gaskets. Hooray to Toyota for stepping up.

I suppose it could help reduce the chances of water intrusion from above through the fastener locations (and associated corrosion) that could be caused either by splashing (would have to be drving pretty damn hard for it to get all the way up there), condensation, or even engine bay washing. Also, the originial "mushroom tip" intake cap is simply open around its circumference toward the rear. The "new" housing cover (standard on my 2015) whould help reduce incidental splashing intrusion into the mushroom tip (yes, I am going to say "mushroom tip" as much as possible). I think the latter issue is probabaly what they really wanted to adress with the cover.

This pic after I removed the internal OEM filter and installed the new Uni filter to replace the hollow mushroom tip (there it is again) shows the exposed fastener heads. I did put the cover back on mine (no pic handy), and the Uni filter fits under the new cap perfectly, too, while still offering plently of breathable, but completely protected, intake surface.
