True, considering this is application to 2012s, and 2012s didn't come with the cover.

Got my notice the other day. Interesting reading the very early posts to this thread, about the problem. I hope all you that paid for your repair get made whole again.

If you bought the bypass kit you must worry too. I’m just glad Toyota is taking care of the problem. Hate to be a couple grand out of pocket for a ridiculous system that shouldn’t be on the truck in the first place.

So has anyone gotten reimbursed for the parts when you did the work yourself? I got the checklist in the letter, but wasn't sure if they would give me the runaround since I replaced it myself and all I have is the receipt from the new part. Thanks for the help.

A few members have submitted for reimbursement myself included who did the work themselves. It takes like 6-8wks for review once they receive your paperwork so were not going to know for a few more weeks how gracious Toyota is going to be yet.

My 2012 just went into limp mode 2 weeks prior to my extended warranty letter arriving in the mail. I had no idea Toyota was going to cover this problem. My brother in law is an auto mechanic. So, he put the Hewitt bypass on my truck and cleared the codes. Truck accelerates fine now and seems normal, but I am using a lot more gas than usual. Only getting about 7 miles to the gallon. Anyone who put on bypass have this problem too? Did not replace pump. ?????

Then I would remove the kit to let the codes pop up, so you can take it to dealer.

I have a '14 with very low miles and still had the valves clog shut even with the ECU run feature on shutdown. Its just a bad system.

Thanks for reporting that! Yeah it seems the ECU band aid is just that - something that postpones but doesn’t fix.

What part of the country do you live in (as far as weather goes)? And about how many miles when it died?

Is this Toyota Coverage only to the 2012 year model?

Ken, I'm in the Mtn. west. Mine died, and went into limp mode while way out in the sticks, at around only 22k miles. The valves were completely clogged shut with carbon and my truck lives in a controlled temp and is rarely used for short trips. I looked at the revised parts on the new warranty extension and it appears though they are just placing the same bad parts on the '12s that come on the '13-'15 and still fail, like mine did.

Thanks! That sure does suck. I’m at 18k on my 2015 that lives in a desert and only does long trips. But it does end up in the sticks a lot so I’ve been watching this disaster closely. I’d like to disable the system entirely so waiting to see if the @slyfox75 solution gets sorted for later models.

I've also been following the OVTune thread for the 4.0 and Mat said recently that the secondary air system could be disabled. I do not know if that means it is a standard feature of one of the tunes or something that could be done on future versions if requested.

Happened to my 2012 Tacoma recently, 1235xx miles, CEL + TRAC OFF + Limp Mode, out of nowhere, no idea WTF was going on. Took it to a local shop (nonToyota) who confirmed symptoms were a result of SAI issues. Was facing up to $1850 in repairs (!!)

Never received the CSP letter in the mail, BUT did find out about it thanks to this thread (thanks Tacomaworld!!) Went and talked to local Toyota dealership service, they confirmed the CSP, they confirmed that my truck was in the "target audience" and, if I bring it in and they confirm presence of SAI issues, it would be covered.

Retrieved Tacoma from local shop before they started expensive repairs. Brought it to local Toyota, they checked it out and, yes, confirmed it was affected by SAI issues. $0 charge to replace various parts, including the pump and valves.

Big Ups to Toyota for stepping up and taking care of this! Super relieved!

The CSP is the real deal, even without the official letter in the mail! Just wanted to share this, and share my experience.

Yay! Just popped the codes today. Whew  Glad she held off until Toyota decided to cover it. I pulled my cover off, removed the Uni-filter, and replaced the piece of foam (put her back to factory) and I'll be trying to get it in to the dealer this week.

Is this set-up on all 2nd Gen Tacomas, or only certain year models?
