Good luck. I’m in same boat.
No reimbursement for labor is what I was informed because no official diagnostic sheet from certified tech with this issue noted. If I didn’t keep a maintenance log it would have made getting my $400+ for parts back a nightmare.
Just glad they’re trynna make it right

Edit: sorry read your post wrong. You should get labor reimbursed- do you still have Work order?

Yes, I have it. It’s the second time that it’s failed in a year. I was two weeks past the one year “parts” warranty because my truck has 42k miles now, so no factory warranty.

    That’s infuriating.
You should be able to get that labor paid back though. Don’t take no for an answer.
Good thing you kept the associated documentation.

So I got the p2442 code. Nearly crashed pulling into traffic when the truck went into limp mode! I cleared the code so I could drive to the dealership. Now they say they can’t help because I don’t have the code showing. They’ve drove it a few times but can’t get s code to show. I called corporate and opened a case, but no help. Any ideas? How can I force the code to show itself again?

It may take a few days, which isn’t ideal, but it’s going to show again. Sucks because are you going to be pulling out in traffic again when it does? Murphy’s law says yes.

Exactly. Does the truck need to be in motion? Or will this just come back on start up? They are keeping the truck for now as I don’t feel safe driving it ( I have a long commute, regularly drive my wife etc) and hoping they can replicate it, but it seems like they mostly run it and let it idle vs. Driving it around. Would revving the engine after a cold start help get the code to pop?

I cleared the codes on my last tacoma, 2012 and it came back on at startup. I can’t say for sure that’s always the case, but that’s what happened to me.

Gotcha. Thanks for the help. Hoping they can replicate it quickly. I have another car to drive in the meantime, but it’s a pain regardless.

    UPDATE:

Got my truck back today. Opening a claim with Toyota worked and the dealership did the work FOR FREE under warranty.

I told them it was a safety issues since the Limp Mode could come on literally at any point, and told them I would not drive the truck until it was done.

I'm happy. Looked like about $1500 if it wasn't covered. Glad Toyota stood by this.

They’ll send you an email about customer satisfaction... I replied that I was glad they covered it but strongly believe the 2012 warranty should be extended to the 13-15 models. Be sure to mention that...

I agree with that statement. Failure of the secondary air system on my truck is really the only concern I have about it. Isn't acting up at all but would be surprised if it didn't at some point considering the track record for the system. The 'purge' thing strikes me as a bandaid and, since other than that the system is unchanged, I expect there to be a failure at some point. Paid for, of course, out of pocket.

Will do. Didn't know they were only covering the 2012 model year, I thought it applied to all vehicles with the new system.

I just purchased a 2015 Tacoma with 15k miles on it and I’m waiting to install the delete when it comes out.

I’m coming from a bulletproof 2009 4runner without this BS air injection system.

Once Hewit comes out with a delete I’m buying it ASAP.

Is the delete different than the bypass?
