Yes, they did replace the switch valve. Definitely last year, I can't find the invoice from 2018 right now but I think they did that time too.

Are you using crap gas like from Sams or the cheapest place you can find? Try using some ethanol free or Chevron or Shell (they have techron). or mid grade. Had it decarbonized at the dealer or use a an injector cleaner? Just a few ideas to see if the codes will clear.

I am no expert on this, but Tacoma manual says use 89 and "they" say you should only use mid or premium if the manual says you need to use it to prevent knocking (usually only on high performance engines. You may want to dial it back to low grade and see what happens.
I only use 89 on my Tacoma and it never knocks...I use a Seafoam in the tank at each 5K oil change.

Mine Tacoma just tossed out these codes and went into limp mode on the highway. Thankfully I had my OBDII Reader in the truck and was able to reset. I called Toyota and was told the service campaign didn't have a mileage limit, is anyone able to confirm this? Id hate to bring it to a dealer and then be told that the limit was 150k. My '12' currently has 200K on it.

I saw that thread which is why I'm not sure that its covered. I called the Toyota recall number and they said they don't see a mileage limit on it, but I dont know if they just weren't looking at the right thing.

When I look in Owners Link it shows:

    Title

Special Service Campaign - 20TC01 - (Remedy Notice) - Certain 2012 Model Year Tacoma - Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves

    Status

    Remedy Available

    Description

There is a possibility that moisture in the air may cause a filter in the vehicle emissions system to degrade. This degradation could cause damage to other parts of the vehicle emission system and illuminate the check engine light (Malfunction Indicator Light).

    Remedy

Any authorized Toyota dealer will inspect the vehicle. Based on this inspection the dealer will repair the air injection pump and install an improved filter, or replace the air injection pump with one that contains an improved filter, as needed, FREE OF CHARGE. The dealer will also replace the air switching valves in the vehicle emissions system FREE OF CHARGE.

    Campaign Date

    May 28, 2020

    Dealer Reference ID

    20TC01

The campaign date is listed as May 28th, 2020 so I don't know if its a newer one or not.

Thanks, I will have to set an appointment with the dealer. I got it back in limp mode so I can have it towed there.

Today, I just took my 2012 in for oil changes and brakes... The Secondary air injector had been changed out about 2 or 3 years ago with no problems since then. The service manager informed it was under recall and they replaced secondary air injector with "all new parts, that is better than the previous"

Would love to see the recall documentation so I could find out if it covered my 2013. No issues yet, but free part are always better than paying for them.

Just talked to the dealer. Campaign was performed on the truck (air injection). It did fail the frame inspection so it is getting a new frame.

I also had the same issue at 35k. Paid out of pocket for new valves, removed stock foam filter crap and used a small filter made by uni. Several days ago I received a letter in the mail from toyota. They are finally acknowledging it is a problem and according to the letter they will reimburse customers for repairs but they have some stipulations. Must be checked by toyota certified shop, must have receipts verifying vin, date, and specific information regarding repair. This didn't help me but it is a step in the right direction. Like others said you should contact toyota and ask about it. The main problem with the pump as reported by owners is the filter degradation resulting in it being sucked into pump and damaging fan blades which then travels to valves blocking them from operating correctly. Pump is more than valves so I removed the foam and used a different filter. Mine personally was deterioration of the valves themselves from condensation build up but it seemed proactive to ditch the foam. As for warranty issues, the filter is easily removed and foam reinstalled before bringing to a stealership to avoid issues. Just fyi, there is a class action lawsuit against toyota with hundreds of people including myself on the list. I would assume that is why toyota is starting to recognize that there is a problem with the system. I can't speak for others but I don't want anything from them besides to not be held accountable for it failing and repairs to be done on their dime. If it would help I could possibly photograph the document sent to me and send it to you. Good luck, and for what it's worth I still believe that the tacoma is still one of the best vehicles for the money on the road today.

So random update on my CEL issues, twice now since my post a few weeks ago, the lights have turned off (second time being today). Only common denominator is that both times it has been extremely hot and humid outside. I have no idea if its relevant, just thought I'd share as it's kind of baffling me. I'm hoping I can get a quick inspection before the lights come back on.

If possible get a code reader on it when the lights are on. At least that should give you some idea where to start.

It was the p2443 code again, it'll be in for diagnostics again in a week or so. *Fingers crossed*

Ya thats your secondary air injection valves. On mine it was stuck open. The problem is it has a solenoid on it that opens and closes depending on the temp of the engine. Mine had deteriorated to the point that it wouldn't seal properly so it threw codes. Did your truck go into limp mode? Mine did and it was no fun, couldn't get past 30mph. Good news is toyota is finally stepping up and admitting it's a problem. They should cover it and repair the issue now for free, I think. Good luck and be aware if it does go into limp mode it severely limits the trucks performance so don't try to jump out into traffic. IMO, it's dangerous but I am definitely no expert.

Luckily its never gone into limp mode, I've read the horror stories on here. They've replaced the entire pump under warranty in 2018 and 2019, someone mentioned making sure they replace the valves which I've noted for this time around, I've got to check their notes if they did or not on the previous times. 2018 the light stayed off a day, 2019 was on before I could even get home. They eventually decided it was a clogged intake and cleaned the entire manifold (also under warranty), light came back on the afternoon I got the truck back. I get the sense the dealer is sick of me at this point

My 2015 1GR-FE just got it's valves stuck at ~61k miles. I turned off the car a while after cold start and instead of the usual whirring noise, I heard a surge. Checked pump, a bit dusty and ashy from the recent fires but nothing alarming. The valves though, caked in emissions though I haven't checked if they were actually stuck - but I'm gonna assume they are. Will get to cleaning it and pray that it'll free up the diaphragm or does something. Those repair bills don't look that enticing, especially for a young teenager like me.
