I did the Hewitt kit and my truck is still throwing P2440 and P2442 codes. Yay me.

Lucky for me I have an ultra gauge and can just delete the codes on the fly while driving. Shouldn't have to though...

I'd buy a VF/HP tuner or equivalent that can turn off ECU reporting on the system, and then just delete the whole thing.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
See my posts on the previous page. I had the same thing happen one morning pulling out of my garage. I pulled the pump apart and cleaned everything I could including sanding the inside of the top where the white fan blades were clearly rubbing. I cleared the code after putting it all back together and have not had an issue since. (Knocks on wood)

Shut down Check codes P2443 is gone! I sure its only a matter of time to when it comes back.

Those codes are 'valve stuck open' typically. So the valves are where you need to take a look.

    Either way.
I got P106B the other day. That's a new one. I have the Hewitt kit...

Looking to buy the HP Tuner now.

    Hp tuner,scan gauge 2 or 3,ultra.
Whats the best option now days?
Been running an old scan gauge in my 2000 4runner for years but just got a 2012 tacoma.
62000 miles in mint condition and two months past expiration on recall.
What about ott tune on the 2012,is that or the Hewitt the best option?

I have a Scangauge 2 in mine, does everything I need it to do. I believe the 3 is just a bigger screen that is touchscreen and color, allowing for more PIDs to be displayed at once.

You would have to check with @JustDSM but I believe they are only doing emissions legal tunes.

Most legit tuners have stopped doing any kind of "emissions defeat" tunes for fear of getting fined out of existence due to all the recent EPA actions against such things.

You can still buy HPTuners and disable the codes yourself as far as I know but I doubt any tuner would do it for you at this point.

The HewittTech module is certainly the easiest option but the cost is right up near what the MPVI and credits for a tune would cost so...

    This.

Just get an HP tuner, you can disable the reporting in the ECU and then it won't even come up. Being the cost is the same as the Hewitt Tech (with the sim sensors at $250 a pop on top of the Main unit itself...), just get the HP Tuner. Then you can get a nice baseline tune and delete whatever you want all for one price.

HP tuner's website or through Overland Tailor Tuning
You buy the Dongle + credits (check HP's Website for the amount), then you get a Vin locked tuner that you can hook up to a computer running their included software to tune your engine. But you can also turn off CEL reporting for various things, such as the Secondary Air Injection System. This allows you to completely remove the system and either swap to non-SAIS headers or bolt on block off plates.

    Thanks
    Seems pretty expensive and complicated.

Does this device need to stay attached to keep changes?

Nope, writes to the ECU. The Hewitt kit costs $500 just for the brain and another $500 for the two sim valves and that has to stay attached. So HP Tuner is actually cheaper.

Even with my full delete kit from Hewitt, once in while I’ll get the codes when there’s a lot of moisture in the air.

I'm now getting the P2443 code and learned about the Hewitt kit but now see this HP Tuner thing might be better to do? Get block off plates and disable the SAIS via a tune?

Not sure to the validity of this. As far as I know, you can turn off reporting in the tuning software. I haven't had hands on experience with it though. OTT will also deny any ability to do so.

You turn off the DTC and then the ECU reads it as though the SAIS system was never there to begin with.

Doing a little google-fu, I've come up with this:
from the editor menu select the edit on the top, engine diagnostics, click the DTC tab, and go down to the codes associated with the SAI System and set them all to the way you want them off, either disabled, or just no error reported.

Even with the Hewitt system I still get error codes on occasion, even after them sending me a new unit. Nothing like starting the truck into limp mode.
