Yesterday morning I started my truck it's a used 2012 TRD sport got it at 60,000 and just getting the p2440 and p2442 at 104k miles. I have no idea if it had it before but the truck hasn't given me any sort of problems since I got it. I cleared the codes for now as I was in limp mode leaving the house, I also haven't removed the valves or pump yet as I don't have the cash yet to fix it so no reason to lol so it's just sitting in the driveway for now.

It seems to me the issue is that the pumps aren't run after shutoff ( in order to remove moisture). To the guys that replaced their pumps, is this something you guys will have to deal in the future , that is until Toyota comes up with a way to have the pumps on the 2012 run after shutdown?

Surprised they don't have an ECU update to address this, seems it would prolong anything made before 13'.

I don't think they care, its one model year and the 3rd gens are out now so 2nd gen is old news. If this starts spreading to later years then we might see something happen would be my guess. They made there money when we bought our trucks, made money off the parts or repair when the valves failed and Tacoma guys will line back up to buy the next one so why should they dip into something that will actually cost them money like a solution for this. You would think they would do something about it to take care of there customers but they could care less.

2012 Tacoma with 84,000 miles... same thing happened to me, I asked Toyota to cover it but they denied the "good will" and only took 10% off. one week in the shop and $832 later I got my truck back... they said every week a Tundra is in the shop with the same problem, only difference is Tundras are covered. some BS

2012 TRD with 82,000k started truck today and got CEL, Trac off and limp mode. Ran checks and got P2440 and P2440. Real disappointed after reading how many are having this problem on 2012 models.

I have a 2012 with 33K on it and I am in the middle of this right now. Only code I have is p2442 for valve stuck open B2. I cleared the light a couple weeks back for this same code. The lights are back on and will not reset this time.

I am going to call my dealer today and see what the scoop is. I did file a complaint online about the issue and I will call Toyota direct if my dealer wont work with me.

Same issue as others (P2440/2442) - Took into Dealership today in Atlanta. I have 106,583 miles on it. There is a TSB but it only applies to certain VINs. My total bill after agreeing to pay $60 to diagnosis what I had shown the guy on my reader was $2,323.82. I just got off the phone with the Customer Service Dept and they informed me that because I had not been taking the vehicle into the Toyota Dealership for service that there was nothing Toyota could do for me.

The service rep a the dealership knew about it but no one wants to acknowledge it.

Any Ideas? Sounds like I might be ordering a part and getting it next day aired to me.

I wasn't aware there is a TSB on this. Does anyone know which models or why certain VINs are included, and some are not?

I am beginning to think the issue is something along the lines of the valves opening when they are not supposed too, causing them to wear out sooner. From my understanding, the purpose of the system is to pass emissions during cold starts by forcing air into exhaust. However, mine threw both codes after I had been driving for an hr in 80 degree weather and come right back after I clear them.

I took mine to the dealership now that it is throwing both codes, and come right back after I clear them. They wants to charge $2200 to replace the diverted valve and airpump at first. The manager then called and spoke to their warranty dept. who said she would process it as a warranty (lowering overall cost too $1900) and cover $500. But the warranty on the new parts is only 1 year so I decided to order the diverted valve from Amazon same day delivery for around $480 and will be doing it myself. Don't think I will replace airpump unless I have to unless anyone has a diff opinion?

Had to have my 2012 TRD V6 4x4 towed to the dealer yesterday afternoon after work. CEL and Trac Off lights + limp mode. 55k miles. Google brought me here.

Haven't heard back from the dealer yet, but looks like I can plan on shelling out around $2k to get my truck back.

    I'm not a DIY guy so.....oh joy.

I would say from my experience that one way or another they should be blue to help you pay less. Ask them to check with the warranty department since you have seen where numerous people have had them offer to cover a portion. If not say that you want to wait to get it done until you call toyota because other people have had them offer to cover some as well. Calling toyota actually counts against the dealer you go to so I think they will try to utilize the warranty department to help. If they don't the Toyota number to call is 18003314331.

I'll definitely badger them a bit about it, but I'm kind of in a jam. My Taco is my only ride, so right now I'm in a rental. I really need to get my truck back ASAP.

In CA, it's not covered under the emissions warranty? I thought some others from CA had theirs covered 100% under the CA mandated warranty.

Shouldn't take that long. I took mine to dealer Monday evening, they had the offer from warranty department Tuesday about covering $500 and doing it as a warranty job, making my cost $1400 and said they could of had parts in today and taken 3-4hrs to do the job. Even though it Only took me an hour to do it.

Dunno. I thought I read in one of the posts that it wasn't technically considered part of the emissions system.

Installing the valves is very easy. Just a tight area but still easy. About 45 mins to tear down (and learn what to remove) and 30 mins to install the new. 10mm and 12mm sockets and wrenchs are all that's needed (I believe that's it). My truck had 125k miles on it and my bank 2 valve went. Ordered the part from @gunny1005 and popped it in!

*edit* a pair of pliers also needed to remove a hose clamp.
