Dorman stuff is decent. If it's got a warranty, throw it on the truck!

Well add me to the list. 2012 Tacoma threw the P2440/2442 codes. Limped it to the dealership (Toyota of Greensburg--not recommending these guys that's for sure! Contact me if you want to hear the gripes) Guess I got lucky -- only had to replace the valve assembly and not the pump, can't wait for that one to fail! It's pretty infuriating when the service guy sits there and tells you he doesn't know what you're saying when you are telling him that Toyota should stand behind their product. Why won't they help to make things right? In any case, not done fighting this one after a $922.02 bill from the dealer (Merry Christmas....makes you want to be one the jolliest group of a$$holes this side of the north pole as Santa slides his fat white a$$ down the chimney!!!!).
Has anyone contacted an attorney on this? Maybe I'll be the one that tips the scales and gets something done (How about that optimism???). In any case, everyone that has had this problem needs to go online and post the complaint. If we band together maybe we can get those rich cats at Toyota to stand behind their product!!!!!

Replaced the air injection pump today on my 2007 2.7 tacoma. Thanks first to AZ_Tacoma_2008 for his research and PM about using a Dorman 316-010 instead of a factory unit,20171218_124434.jpg 20171218_124448.jpg 20171218_125713.jpg 20171218_130358.jpg 20171218_133322.jpg as well as warning me that I would have to reuse the wiring pigtail from the old pump. It was a easy to do and took me about 2 hours with a break in between to rest a spell. As you can see, the old foam filter had disintegrated and clogged the opening as well as binding up the motor and causing it to burn up. I made sure there was no more debris in the top (which you reuse) and in the hose to the diverter valve. After installation I reattached the negative lead on the battery and started it up....no CEL now and no weird "loud intake" sound at startup. Photos attached. Cost= 104 with shipping from Amazon. Thanks to all on this forum! Merry Christmas!

Well today is the day! My 2012 v6 with 34151 threw code p2443 stuck closed by my code reader, no limp mode. Yet! Does anyone on this thread( I posted on another thread on this board) know how long it will go before limp mode or does it just stay stuck closed with CEL and TRAC Off light on. Called my local dealer explaining my issue, he said clear the code and see if it comes back on, then let him know. He said the ball park to fix is around $2,000 for pump and switching valve and $98 to read the code.

dieselfan, you can purchase the pump and diverter valves online and do it yourself. I bought a Toyota OEM diverter valve online and was fortunate to get the Dorman aftermarket pump for a reasonable price thanks to the work of another member here. I realize the v6 has 2 diverter valves but they are not hard to change and disconnecting the battery prior to the repair is all you need, as once the work is done the code will be cleared. $2000? please. The parts and 2-3 hrs. of your time is all it takes. Everything is easy to get to as well. and 98 to read the code? a friend has one of the computers and he had my codes in 10 minutes! Start checking online for the parts and good luck!

From what I've seen in this forum, it's mostly the valves that need replacement and not both the pump and the valves. The only thing with replacing the valves is that the same thing will happen again sooner or later.

@slyfox75 mentioned a pump delete kit that someone sells for $180. I may just do this and put the block off plates where the valves are. Mine haven't failed yet.

Definitely report back the diagnosis as we are all curious how 2012 and 2013+ failures might differ. They changed the ECU in 2013+ to try and alleviate the moisture issue. Other ways the system can fail too of course.

Damn, I wish you had been able to take it apart before the dealer got it. They will just test it and swap parts and not really dive into taking the pump or valves apart. I have a 14 and had hoped that the "run in reverse" would at least keep them failure free longer. I have 80k on mine with no issues yet. I did pull the foam and replace with the uni filter at 60k.

Just curious, did you or the dealership get the codes back to know it's air injection for sure?

So where are you guys getting the valves, and do they come as one piece to just bolt up after taking old set off?

    Thanks

Probably because a failing air injection system is not a likely cause of a misfire code

Guys I can confirm Toyota is fixing this issue under warranty. I put mine in shop last week with p2442 codes, was going to cost me $2052.32 for repairs. I picked my truck up today and was informed that there was no charge, Toyota was paying for the fix so call your dealers if you have had this fixed, Toyota owes you money back.

    Ok guys good news here.
So as of 1/11/2018 Toyota has issued an extended warranty for the Air injection pump and valve assembly. There is No mileage limitations through February 28 2019.
If you’ve already changed the part personally then there’s a good chance to get reimbursed with proof of purchase and ownership.

    Nice.

I'd still rather delete the pump, personally. That's valuable real estate.
