Is the secondary air injection system the one that circulates exhaust gas into the air intake? Why not just block off/delete the system? It would be one less thing to fail in the future and you wouldn't have to deal with intake carbon deposits.

    Too few to list.
Mine had a high pitch or squeal during a start up followed by the code later that day. Fortunately, I was at 7,800 miles and warranty covered the pump.

Wow, that is way too early for any failures, this pump has to be a bad design.

Yep and I'm in SoCal so not even a lot of moisture here to cause the failure. The pump just gave a loud squeal one morning and it was done.

2012 Tacoma TX, 50k miles... Add me to the list. Burnsville Toyota in MN quoted me $1,100 to fix it. I've already e-mailed the corporate office complaining. Based on this thread alone they need to do the right thing and recall the part.

2012 Tacoma LB, 62k miles. Check engine came on, both the codes came up (P2442, and P2440). I drove home after work in limp mode. Let it rest a day. Cleared the codes today, and so far everything is running normal.

    Just a matter of time.
If valve sticks open you burn up the fan and cost a load more.
It will crap out on you again, just when you need it most.....
Also in heavy traffic if you have my luck...

I notice a lot of mostly 2012's that have this issue. I really think it doesn't matter what year (12+), sooner or later it will be an issue. I'm planning to go Hewett tech route soon.

Codes are back on. It was only a matter of time.

I was in the same boat. 2012 Tacoma with about 55k miles and it threw both codes. Had a obd handy and it had both codes. Reset and they stayed away until 58k miles when they would not clear. Dealer quoted $2200 to fix and toyota offered no assistance even after two calls.

Went the Hewitt Tech route. At 63k now with no more codes. Install took me about two hours. Only difficulties with the bypass kit are getting to the ECT harness and inserting the block off plate on the left (if looking at the engine from the passenger side) valve.

Entered the complaint...maybe Toyota will take notice one day, but the bypass seems like a good option for now and may even be a better fix in the long run.

Message me with any questions about the bypass kit.

I have a 2012 with 52k miles, just got the call from Toyota. He called it a "Secondary Air Pump Failure" which put it into Limp Mode. I couldn't figure out why I could not go more than 25 mph / 2200 RPM's up a hill. The dealership did tell me that this issue will be covered under my 5 year / 60k mile warranty. They are fixing it now, but I can post an update after I get the rig back.
    Will this issue repeat itself?
