This just happened to my 2012 v6 Tacoma immediately after a software update for a recall relating to brakes. I called the dealership, he told me he had never seen the issue with a Tacoma before and it would likely be "thousands."

I'm going to mention the goodwill warranty and see if I can get a break.

My truck has 92k miles but is pristine, never got a CEL before.

Good Luck. I took it all the way the the GM the 1st day I was there. Toyota helpline was closed for the New Year's holiday.
The Service manager told me the same thing. That he had seen this many times on Tundras. But this was the 1st time ever on a Tacoma.

If you don't mind, would you be able to send me the whole service report/receipt so they can see the date?

I don't need any of your personal information but I think having that report would be helpful.

No dice with the dealership. I'm going to see if perhaps I can just clean the pump.

Saw some other threads where people blamed the little foam filter in the pump for the issue so I took a peak under the cover and thankfully my filter is fully in tact still.

Hey all....or ya'll as we say in NC. Noticed there are some other NC peeps on this thread. I just joined to get in on this conversation, cause I have the cursed code as well P2442, not the other, but assume it's the same problem. I got what was probably this same code some months back, and it sent the truck into limp mode. I needed to get home, so thankfully I had a tool kit with me and disconnected the battery, and all was fine. Months went by and today, got the code. Already had bought me a code checker for when it happened again. Turned it off, and now seeing what happens. I'm wondering if I could get some of that love from Fred Anderson Toyota, or my local dealership in Rocky Mount.

Good luck, not many have had luck with the dealers and most have taken it all the way to corporate. Just save yourself time and aggravation, order the parts and fix yourself.

    Too few to list.
Get your VIN documented with the NHTSA. With enough complaints, maybe one day Toyota will extend the warranty or reimburse.

Does disconnecting the battery reset the codes? Or just get it out of Limp Mode?

With mine, the pump was the issue. Resetting the codes did not do anything as it came right back on when started.

Disconnecting does do both, a matter of time before it comes back on. Seems to happen more when moist or wet outside. I'm to the point of riding with CEL checking device now just to turn the code off and get out of limp mode. I'm going to document my vin with the site, but I need to do this before that will ever come about. Went to the dealership today, nothing. Same reaction... Tacoma? Really? The guy did note there was a bulletin out, but not a recall. Did you guys replace the pump or valves or both? I was thinking of just the valves, the mechanic agreed. I have 2442 only, not the other.

Yea I carried my code reader for a few months while I argued with the dealer. Got me snowhere so I ordered the Hewitt module and have had no problems since. If Toyota ever decides to take responsibility and fix the issue I will remove the module and drive it in to be fixed.

    Update on my situation:

Local dealership didn't want to work with me because I'm over 85k miles, but they asked me to call Toyota's main help line. The lady there was great. She did a little investigating and called me back the next day telling me she gave me $1,000 credit at that dealership towards "parts and service."

The dealer is saying the repair is going to be about $2.4k, and they're asking me to drop it off so they can get to it.. But I just emailed them to let them know that I'd like them to diagnose it, and depending on the result, I may opt to just purchase parts from them with that credit. I don't think they're going to like that, but I'm crossing my fingers.

Also, I think the issue is definitively linked to moisture. The first day the CEL came on, it was raining. I cleared it, got about 100 miles out of it before it came on again on a rainy day. I drove through some big puddles on my way to work and the CEL would come on every few miles after that.

I cleared it that night a final time and now that it's been dry, I have gotten well over 150 miles without a CEL.

I talked to my local dealership yesterday and they could not help me, but gave me the number to call. I called today and could not get anywhere with them, no credit or nothing. Hell, I would have love it if they gave me that credit, that could pay for the diverter valve assembly and maybe the air pump also. I'm willing to do the work, though it may take me a few extra minutes than the more experienced guy, but saving money is higher on my list of priorities.

I would say to the guys in the NC region to go to the Fred Anderson of Raleigh. I spoke to a Service Rep named Matt. Like I said prior, they did the whole job free of charge.
