Excuse me if this has been asked before. I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L and did the UNI filter mod last year. Car is due for a smog by end of the month. Do I need to swap the UNI filter back to the original foam before smogging?

Depends if they do a visual inspection or not and if so how picky they are.

If you want to be safe just take the UNI off and snap the stock cap back on, get it inspected, then put the UNI back on.

Agree with DM on the attitude of the inspector. I bring my ‘13 4.0 with the UNI mod installed to a trusted shop to do emissions inspections here in VA. No problem so far. You can always bring the stock filter foam with you if the inspector is having a bad day.

Did the Uni-filter years ago. Haven't thought about it since. The smog place has never mentioned it.

I swap mine back every smog, I dont want to give them ANY excuse during the visual to fail me, takes 3 min and saves tons of time if you do get failed.

Luckily we don't have to deal with any of that crap here... at least not yet. They even did away with safety inspections as of Jan 1st.
