I use to tell my kids all the time to read their manuals. One day it became real apparent that one did not follow the advice. He called from school one day and said he tried to drive home but his car was smoking like crazy. Fearing the worse I figured he blew a head gasket. Hooked up a trailer and went on a rescue mission. Car would not crank. It was locked up. Managed to get it on trailer and home. First thing I did was pull dipstick. Oil was almost at top of stick. Opened oil fill cap and I could see oil. I drained 2-1/2 gallons out of a vehicle that held 1. I said I know I told you to watch your oil but did you think to check the dipstick. He said no I just added a quart now and then. I said "dipstick" this is the dipstick. Now go read the manual like I told you to.

Put a topper on the back; two layers of smoke glass makes it a moot point.

:) You think we got a driver's manual, the wife got a 13 Lexus ES350 and the main manual is over 900 pages. And it has two auxiliary manuals for the navigation and radio, and the cliff notes ( quick Start manual ) is over a hundred pages. The warranty and lemon law books means that nothing else will go in the glove box.

I got the wife an RX 350 as well and was shocked at the size of the manual. I actually read my Tacoma's manual but skimmed the Lexus. Too much information.

Well I did skim through the manuel but only read certain parts so I did not know about this feature either, as soon as I saw this thread I went out to the truck and changed my temperature/compass display to the blue color and already like it much better. Thanks for posting.

I work as a tech at Lexus. Those manuals are huge! I think 10% of our customers actually read them.
I think they should stop printing manuals and just include a DVD and put that in the glove compartment, or an ebook that the customer can read on their tablet. Just leave a quick guide in the car that has specs and simple maintenance.

I prefer the paper manual and would not want just a DVD. I am glad they do give you one in English and Spanish like everything else is. I hate the bi-lingual ones.

Just a few little things. It's my DD
I'm pretty lazy, a DVD sounds kinda nice, but I'm sure I wouldn't watch it, like I don't read the manual. I can already picture what kind of DVD it would be. "Here is your engine oil dip stick, pull it out like this to check the level"
