Anyone have some ideas on securing the bed mat in the bed? Learned the hard way that the air blowers at my local touch free car wash do a fine job of making that thing airborne and gone. My only thought is self tapping screws with a washer. Thought someone would have a more elegant solution. Tired of rolling that thing up a shoving it in the back seat every time I wash it.
    Search turned up nothing.

Is this a factory bed mat? Would not have guessed that would be a problem given how heavy they are.

Yes, OEM bed mat. Maybe the blowers at my car wash are unusually strong, but it’s unlikely.

I know its not the answer you were looking for, but this is one solution to the issue that Ive found works a treat:

My OEM bed mat also disappeared after a car wash about a month ago. When I realized it and went back they said it has been happening a lot and they actually had 2 of them there. Definitely not something I expected but I guess air pressure over a large surface can do crazy things.

Load bar? Dual purpose, even. Just put it in the middle of the wheel wells down low during washes. Hide it up front when not needed...

Get a tube of sand and toss it in the bed when you go through the wash.
They are very cheap, $5, and you get the added bonus of extra winter traction (if you live in an area that snows)

Did this on my old 2nd Gen and works like a charm. Also acts as a theft deterrent. I should do it again on my 3rd Gen.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
I don't have a bed mat. I was actually going to buy the OEM one soon. Would velcro at the 4 corners hold it down? That stuff is pretty amazing. It's easy to apply or remove, and no tapping of holes.

Just curious if anyone has tried the velcro industrial grade tape.

I doubt the adhesive would hold against the rubber very, especially if the truck bed sees sun, unless supplemented with epoxy or something strong like that. Drilling out the hole in the bed isn’t that big a deal. The hole itself (at least in 2nd gens) is already there as a drain hole.

I had the same issue, I just ran bungie cords in an "X" pattern into the "D" hooks in the bed. No issues after that.

Question: Does using a load bar create the stress that bed stiffeners are supposed to protect against?

My mat doesn't move either. But I use cargo this bar too for other things, and it too hides nicely up front under the mat.

If you really crank it down, it would. Mine has rubber feet, so a little tension goes a long way. And I usually try to place it strategically in the spaces where the bed has indents (i.e. the 2x4 slots, etc).
