    Hey everyone

I went from a tonneau cover to a canopy, neither of which I cared for as much as having an open truck bed.

I would like to mount a Hi Lift jack and a Jerry Can in the truck bed without worrying about someone stealing them. Does anyone know what I might find some locking brackets or something of that sort? Anyone have any tried and true ways of securing items in the bed that I am not thinking of?

@Jibbs show this feller your bed rack setup. May be able to translate that into an idea for bed rail mounted things.

It's a hard problem to solve because any solution short of welding all your stuff to the frame is going to be stealable by a motivated enough person, but I've found that basic deterrents have worked so far for me. I have a kb voodoo rack and I run steel cable through the rack which I loop through my boxes/cooler. Heavy duty masterlocks at each end of the cable.

Someone would have to either have bolt cutters or be willing to take the entire rack off my truck to steal that stuff. You could probably run steel cable through your bed cleats or other tiedowns similarly.

I don't have any decent pictures of the setup but you aren't really missing anything from the description I put above and the cable and two masterlocks cost me about $30 total

    I've got these: https://www.relentlessfabrication.c...cts/05-tacoma-bed-rail-dual-quick-fist-mounts

In a slightly different cut pattern, but same concept. Can't find the pic of my bed with the shovel and ax on them.
You can loop the cable around the inside of the bracket (they stand off the bed rail far enough to do this) and through the handle of the shovel. I need to put a hole in my ax handle to do this as well. Not sure that's the right way to do this, though.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
I use the Relentless Hi-lift mount for my open bed. I live out so I'm not concerned with having it stolen, its a 25 year old Hi-Lift anyways so if someone steals it I will have an excuse for a new one. The Relentless mount comes with wingnuts to secure the jack to the bracket, which makes it easy to remove/steal the jack, I'm going to end up replacing the wingnuts with safety nuts so that way anyone wanting to steal it will at least need a wrench to remove it.

I use Quick fist clamps to carry my Max-Ax which I'm a little more concerned with someone stealing since its super easy to walk off with. I make sure to only carry it when I'm going off-road (Camping, Hunting, etc.) the rest of the time I keep it in the garage.

Can someone just unbolt where the brackets attach to the bed rail and walk off with the whole thing?

Thick ass chain covered by an old bike innertube for protection of my mountain bikes. Heavy duty masterlocks to the OEM D-Rings. or my C4 rack.

I also have a braided steel cable for other stuff.

Sometimes, I will put both through my bike frames just to be a major pain in the ass to potential thieves.

You could defeat it, but you are gonna need the big 36" bolt cutters or a decent angle grinder. At which point Mr. Heckler and Mr. Koch are on standby

I keep 2 of these in the truck. I'll run them through my chainsaw handle, or various other things that I have in the bed and through the bed bolt tie-down points. It won't stop someone determined from stealing it, but it'll at least slow them down.

Well sure. Do you normally see thieves walking around with socket sets?

You can also use security bolts, to deter removing bolts!

There is always room for invention.....on my old service trucks we often mounted stuff on wheel studs (that matched the truck lugs) clamped down with lug nuts. So when I mounted my jack on the tool box - I made stud brackets that use the same wheel stud threads as the Taco. Then put some Gorilla locks on them that were also sized for the truck.

They have an integral cover (that spins) to keep off the visegrips. I keep the "key" socket and a sawed off Chinese box wrench in the tool box tray.

No idea, I've never seen one walking around lol. I just presume based on LED pods and such going missing without being cut off, but rather cleanly unbolted, I would've thought yes, or even an adjustable wrench. All it would take is just enough of a turn to loosen the bolt then it comes free by hand.
