Has anybody tried security film for their windows? Been thinking about it, and wondering if it’s worth the cash. Thoughts?

That’s a terrible idea. You need to be able to break the glass and egress in an emergency. Imagine getting in a rollover and the truck is on fire and you burn to death because you couldn’t break your way out.

    I agree.

Also there are a ton of people in this thread who don’t know if they should agree or disagree.

Well then, I suppose this would be more of a individual choice.

OP, how's the marriage and finances?

Sorry. Yes. Window security tint. It is supposed to slow the thief down after breaking the window. Kind of like a windshield stays together. You can still get through, it just takes a little longer.

Since we’re talking about window tint here, I also vote bad idea. If you’re worried about theft of goods inside the vehicle, there are options like a Pacsafe that would probably work better.

Also, if I were a wrecking bar carrying crackhead, once I made the decision to open up a window, no security film would deter me from that iPod.

It does what, slows you down from 15 seconds to almost a minute? That's still not long enough to get caught in most cases.

Why would it be illegal? Mercedes has been making bullet-proof windows for their cars for years. Try breaking out of that in an emergency. I’m talking about a type of window tint that shatters the glass but holds the glass together. Now I can’t speak for myself, but I have 3 friends that were in a burning car accident. When your adrenaline is rushing because your eyelashes are on fire, you’re not worrying about big sharp shards of glass as you’re trying to get out (which you probably should be). I think small pieces of shattered glass would be a lot safer to roll around in if you were ever in an emergency.

I am for it until further thought changes my mind.

I mean, there are a million ways to die but this is the only way to bullet proof yer windows.

Here in the Bay Area, smash n grab is all ppl do. If it takes more than a swing to get into a car, there’s another vehicle 5 cars ahead that would be a lot easier. When you smash a car window, the glass creates a huge opening for you to avoid getting cut up. 4 seconds, in and out. With the security film, you have to keep breaking away at the shattered glass to move it out of the way. Already too much work. This includes crackheads. I live on 10th and st James in San Jose. Crack central. Make enough noise, they run
