I would think the reasoning is if you steal things that are a dime a dozen you probably have a better chance of getting away vs the car that turns your head and gathers attention.

T-case in neutral, unplug (ignition? ) fuse.

That big black fuse that you unplug when cleaning air filter, maf sensor, etc.

There is a 10 gauge wire from the battery negative post to body ground. When disconnected my 2000 2.7 won't start, but accessories work. I'm thinking of putting a switch in this circuit.

If I ever needed to go any place I had to worry I would just throw a chain around the steering wheel and the clutch pedal.

It is nice to not travel or live in places things need to be locked

Right. I cant remeber the last time I locked the doors. Half the time my keys are sitting in the front seat. Only time they get locked is when I go into the city. My small town knows more people carry than not and its not worth the little you might lift from the truck.

I dont get it either. i could not tell you how many times i heard "I've been doing that for xxx years and never had a problem (you'll have to imagine the smug look of self satisfaction on their face)." Followed by my canned response "Well i guess you can't say that anymore, can you? Because in case you forgot right now you're talking to the police, because your car has been stolen.

"Why" was universally "so i don't have to look for my keys." ok, but it's not exactly like you have to take your keys out and then walk them 10 miles to a secure vault and then do it again before work. You have to go through all the effort of putting them in your pocket, or horror of horrors, carry them in your hand for 10 feet into the exact place youre already going.

And don't forget now you have to rekey your entire house because you kept house keys on the same ring, (don't forget to change youre garage door opener, the entire thing since the remote in your stolen car will work otherwise) and then get new keys for anyone else that might want to be in the house. Work keys on that ring? Might want to tell your boss it would be a good idea to rekey the business. Oh, gee golly, now your WIFES car, of which you carried a key to on that same ring has ALSO gone missing along with her purse, office keys credit cards etc etc etc. Oh my lord a third or fourth car has gone missing (depends how many driving kids they had) and now a BURGLARY report because you failed to do the exact thing i have repeatedly stressed you do since the first time we spoke?

This is my surprised face right here. I'm just plain surprised, totally shocked. You have had quite the year haven't you?

But no you're right, not leaving your life in an unlocked vehicle would have been a dumb thing to do what with carying your keys inside at night being so over the top difficult.

And if your car ever goes missing expect the first real question to be "are you current on your payments?" Followed by asking you to call your bank. I 'solved' lots of cases by watching someone's face as they made that phone call.

FWIW im also responsible for curing countless heart attacks, preventing untold premature births, and stopping multiple active rapes and homocides just by uttering the magic words "ill follow you to the hospital" or "what's the address, I'll have 10 strong men with guns there in less than a minute." And so far I'm still not considered a saint by the pope.

Tbh though, i never locked my jeep or my convertible. i just never kept anything in them i want ok losing. I'd rather replace my stereo, that i got as an open box for 1/5 the cost then replace an expensive stereo and my slashed soft top.

You know I forgot about this quite some years ago I was the type that always locked things .

Short version I had the window broke so someone could steal a $25.00 radio .

Now I was driving from Casper Wyoming back to Pa in January sure was cold not having a window Had to be 1975 just a poor 18 year old .

That cured me of locking things people want to steal something I would rather they just open the doors

I understand the logic of leaving it unlocked for a thief to just take what they're after without smashing a window or breaking a door, but leaving the keys in as well is like saying 'just take the whole damn truck'

Back in high school, the "hicks" would leave their trucks unlocked, windows down, WITH the keys in the ignition. Sometimes I'd walk by, take the keys out and leave them on the seat. I got my friends doing this too.
That didn't stop them. Eventually, I moved one of the trucks to the other side of the lot.

Needless to say, there were no more keys left behind anymore.
