    I never had it welded on, but it protects the pumpkin from getting crushed coming down off of rocks or by debris. That is the weakest part of rear axle and a dent can wreck havoc. I had a close encounter that's when I got it. It seemed like a much cheaper option for protection than dropping hundreds on a full bolt on system, and the weight is far less as well.
