Hi! Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

And please let me know if this post breaks any rules and where I should post instead.

After a year of fun building and using my Tacoma, we've decided to upgrade our camping trailer, making sleeping quarters in the tow vehicle (Tacoma) unnecessary. I'm planning to sell the Tacoma and use my 100 Series Land Cruiser as my daily and camp vehicle going forward.

The Question: how should I sell my Tacoma?

To be more specific, should I sell it as a complete truck? Or should I part out the significant items (GFC Camper, Decked Drawers, Talon Aluminum Skids) and sell my Tacoma closer to stock?

Would love to hear advice from those more in tune with the Tacoma market than me.

I plan to list the truck the start of August.
I'm not in a rush to sell but would definitely like to sell this year.

    Thanks again for your help!

Almost no value added with over $15,000 in mods. Remove and sell separate for more money.

Nice rig, but your outfitted truck will appeal to a much smaller audience being sold as is . And forget about getting anything for all that stuff if you trade it in. Regardless, you will get nowhere near what you paid for all your nick-nakes.

I am in almost the same position as you, but not as many nic-nacs just a camper shell. From the research I have done I will probably list on TW as is at first, if no luck here then sell the shell separate from the truck.

I'd sell it as more of a stock truck. problem then is having to deal with selling all the additional stuff. i think selling the truck with all those accessories would really limit the market. or you'll have to take a pretty big loss.

I would sell all the camper and related items as a bundle separately from the truck. Consider starting at 2/3 retail price and adjust accordingly.

Remaining mods won't add any value if you trade-in the truck. Likely will recover 10% of remaining mod purchase price with a private party sale.

Thanks for the helpful advice and perspectives, all.

I am definitely ready to eat a solid one year depreciation/loss. It's the cost of trying a new setup and learning what I like and don't like when building the next truck.

If I could sell the truck as-is for $45k to $50k, I'd do it. That's basically $4k to $9k over purchasing the truck stock in July 2024 from a big box like CarMax.

But you guys are confirming what I suspected: selling the larger things (GFC Camper, namely) separately, then selling the truck closer to stock will likely net the best results.

    GFC - $7k
Roof rack - $250, or bundled with the GFC for $0 to secure a GFC sale
    Decked - $800
    Skids - $700
    Bump stops - $0
    Tires - $0
    Seat covers - $250
    Bed stiffeners - $75
    Spare - $0
    Tailgate Lock - $0
    Storage - $0

I'd say this breakdown is a little more realistic if you chose to sell things off the truck. As you can imagine, you'll never see your $15,770 again, but you can likely recoup about half of it.

Yeah, this seems like a pretty solid breakdown. If I got $10k for everything "additional" (close to the sum of your numbers), I could sell the truck to CarMax today for $35k. That would get me to my goal of $45k+. I'd prefer not to do that but will if it's the best path.

I was going to have the truck professionally detailed and photographed in preparation for a nice listing in various places (maybe even Bring a Trailer if I felt that was the best venue). But maybe I should just test the waters in a few places as-is with the photos I shared above.

Any thoughts on if $45k to $50k as-is is realistic?

It's not out of the realm of possibility, but would require just the right buyer who is looking for exactly what you've got. The longer your timeline for selling the truck is the more likely that person will pop up and make a reasonable offer on the truck as-is.

Seems like you want this thing gone quickly which make the part out route the most reasonable.

Not in my opinion. Possible, yes, anything is possible; plausible, not likely. I'd take every possible thing off the truck and return to stock where possible (and doesn't cost you anything additional), sell/trade in the truck, and spend the next 6 months trying to sell the parts for top dollar, lowering the amount each month til its all gone. Its a losing game overall. Your truck value decreased from when you bought it, your mods added no value, and the cost/value of your newer vehicle in mind is only going up. Just mitigate the damage where you can, make it fast (bundle everything for a stupid deal to someone/its gonna hurt), and enjoy the process of starting over.
