Did you ever encounter any issues with rubbing on the resis where you mounted them?

Curiouser and curiouser, do these ride flush all the way?

I'm planning to do the same with a prinsu and like the factory finish you've acquired. I do like your new vegabond more :drool:

Not so far, and I've got a lot of miles on them.

    Thanks!

Yes! I built the bumper and then designed the swingout onto it. I had a cheap Amazon gun case up on the PrinSu when I had it. It was just for recovery gear which I am making a new home for.

Negative, there is a gap where the roof rises. The Vagabond is definitely mo' better!

Got any pictures of the gap from the side? Like @erice im also planning on doing something similar. Im considering putting some precise bends in the rails to match the curve of the roof where it bumps up.

Like the build, real nice rig. Wondered if the next big mod was for a manual trans, getting to be more like a truck! Good call, nice clean work.
    So a couple questions:
    1) how high is your rig ground to fan housing clearance for the drifter? Hoping to pull the trigger on one this fall.

    2) how much lift does your rig have? I am currently running the OME HD exp pack with and AAL, planning to add an Icon AAL pack this summer. Possibly upgrade to an AlCan pack once I get the drifter and can get an idea what the load will be for camping and such.

I am currently running Toyo ATll 235/85-16 on stock OEM steel road wheels- like the spare rims all around, so my tire height is pretty close-1.25” or so to the 255s you are running, nice looking wheels...

I may go up to 255, but the 235s are easy to get about anywhere and fit my budget. I would like to stick with an 85 series tire, I grew up on the east side of the divide up in Wyoming and used crawl all over the Absaroka and Wind River Mtns in a 52 ‘ CJ2A with 7.00-16s, really like pizza cutters.
So unless I end up in sand country for an extended period, if so I have a set of the OEM mags that I am thinking about getting them bead blasted and maybe powder coated satin black if I decide to go that route.

Thanks for sharing the info on your build and enjoy the upcoming wheeling season.

Thanks. Depends on the weight in the back but around/under 7 feet. My lift is adjustable front and rear, I haven't actually measure the true lift I currently have but I'd say its around 2 in front and 3 in the back. I had to ditch the OME with AAL once I got the swing out. I would weigh your truck and see how much weight you have over the rear axle all loaded and ready to go before pulling the trigger on a spring pack. For me, I'm 5280# which is almost a good ton over stock weight. That meant Deaver had to build me a custom pack for this weight.

Drifter is the way to go, most of my trucks weight comes from the armor and bumpers, while the Drifter rides like a nice load in the bed. About the same as hauling around a motorcycle.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Yeah, I still have a winch and at least a front skid to add, plus a 4xInnovations rear bumper(figure to add some wrap around armour to their offering) with their swing out( probably try to cut the long arm down and set up dual swing outs to their original setup) to add. I think that will help balance out the load on the rear suspension. I guess that bridge is a ways down the road.
Thanks again for the info, and chronicling your build, lots of good ideas.
Enjoy the build and the spring, cheers

    I second this!
    Your setup was on point.

    Flatbed fifty10?
Or has the time come to get a bigger rig for family things?

Time. And I'm all out of that unfortunately.

I live where most go to camp now. Surprisingly I'm not camping as much anymore. It needs to go to someone who will use it well.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I'll run the truck with an open bed again for a while. No immediate plans.

So while I'm working on selling the Drifter, I might as well give a post-Covid update.

In the two last years it's been engine and supercharger rebuild and new tires. The truck started exhibiting symptoms of a cracked head. So I ordered some refurbed heads from Jegs and got to work.

    PXL_20210429_213636687.jpg

While I was in there, I planned for a whole refresh. New water pump, idler pulley, timing belt, battery, and thermostat. I even replaced the fan clutch oil with a different weight so it would come on sooner and help with those overheating problems that likely got me here in the first place. Here you can definitely see some antifreeze remnants.

    PXL_20210504_235627278.jpg

The passenger head was the culprit and from what I know is a fairly common weak point on the 3rd cylinder.

    PXL_20210508_165815254.jpg

Dropped that in the box to get my core charges back and got working on all the new shiny bits. During this time, I sent the S/C off to San Diego to be inspected and rebuilt. Turns out I beat the shit out of it and needed all new impellers. Nothing like unexpected expenses during a rebuild...

    PXL_20210508_012244061.jpg

And then reassembly once the S/C came back. I took the time while I was in here to also clean up my wiring, remove the excess rat's nests that build up with increment quick mods, and replace my hood light with a better LED strip. I also relocated my washer fluid with a different tank out of a chevy vehicle, if I remember right. It took some modification and wasn't quite bolt on, but it works well in that location. I was forced to do this since my tire took out my original in a wash in Death Valley...

    PXL_20210521_232715433.jpg

All put together and then re-shoed with some normal 33's, instead of the skinnies that I couldn't get to align (not enough camber on my LCA), just in time for @tacomgee 's bridal shower. :jerkoff:
