Seized Diff Lug

    The lug on the rear differential is seized, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove it or any tips on doing it. I would like to change out the diff fluid pretty soon, so any help would be great thanks.

    Have you tried soaking it in WD-40 for a few hours? Breaker bar didn't work? Try an impact gun to see if that'll bust it loose. Is it the drain or filler plug that's seized?

    Filler Plug. At jiffy lube they tried an impact gun and wouldn't come out. Have not tried the WD-40. I will try that once they finish pouring the concrete for my driveway and its all dried up. Thanks

    WD-40 is not going to cut it .

    You need a penetrating oil of some sort P Blaster Kroil something along those lines

    You might need to weld a new nut on.

    You Gotta love Jiffy Lube!!

    What do you mean by weld a new nut on? Like drill a new hole or what? Sorry I'm a bit confused

    I don't think penetrating oil is even going to cut it in his case. If an impact gun won't take it off, he'll probably need to weld a new nut like you mentioned.

    I don`t have a Plug in front of me so I am just guessing on the size

    You find a nut you have a 6PT socket for

    Weld it to the stuck nut .

    Did they round it off using the wrong size or Just being stupid ??

    Going the wrong way perhaps.

    I just use a 6pt socket on my 1/2 ratchet once the old plugs or out.

    I always put new plugs in when I get a new vehicle coming through here.

    Have new plugs to replace Never Seize them and snug them up

    Give it a few love taps with at least a 3lb sledge then try again. If anything you can always remove the vent thingy on top and fill the fluid from there if you absolutely can not remove the fill plug.

    OP you might have to grind down the edge of the socket. Standard sockets have that round lip that isn't flush because mine wanted to slip when I was trying to remove the drain plug.

    Had that issue with an older toyota pickup. I put a heat gun on maximum 1500 watt setting directly on the nut for about a minute or when it seems pretty hot. I then hit it with the impact and it came right off. WD 40, pb blaster, sledge hammer would not work for me.

    I'm surprised that a little heat gun like that would have any impact at all. Usually when you heat something threaded to disconnect it, you need something a lot more serious, like an acetylene torch. Blast it until it is *REALLY* hot (but not melted), and crank it off.

    Jiffy lube? They probably impacted it in the wrong direction and tightened it to 300 foot pounds.
