Selecting a mild lift (TRD Baja TX Pro + Icon AAL)

Just ordered the Headstrong 2" Lift Coils (HS-TT0503-2LC). Wondering if I will need the 1/4" spacer for the "taco-lean"?

 

If you are using OEM TRD Baja/Pro shocks you don’t need it. If using aftermarket Bilstein shocks you do.

500 miles on my TRD Pro suspension and still sitting at 22.75” front left and right and 23.5” rear left and right

I’m gonna swing by Summit Racing today to get new leaf spring pins and throw the overloads back in after my trip this weekend to get some of the rake back in the rear. I’m damn impressed with the ride quality so far and loving the height I’ve gained. From everything I’ve read I’ve gained between 2.25” and 2.5” up front over a stock TRD Sport

 

Update: it’s been just shy of 3 weeks since my install and I’ve put roughly 1800 miles on the system. About 1000 of that was hauling a 400 pound bike in the bed. I’ve hit hard dips and bumps to try to settle the suspension but it’s staying at 23” front left and right and 23.5” rear left and right. The AAL and 5160’s did amazing with the added weight in the bed. Honestly didn’t even feel it was back there.

So is it safe to say after that much driving the suspension has settled? I’ve got the new center pins to install my overloads...just don’t wanna do that and suddenly my front drops 1/2” after 2500 miles or something.

 

Thanks for the update. Would sure think things are settled by now. Just to clarify...you didn't have any spacers (top or bottom) in the front, right? Lift height is still more than I was expecting. If anything, this just confirms that I will be including the overloads when I do the AAL's and my Pro kit. Wondering, too, how you like the ride and handling versus the stock sport?

Since we are finally past winter (got 5" of snow last week!), tomorrow I am going to get the new wheels and tires on and start looking seriously at getting the suspension handled.

 

No spacers at all. I’ve decided to give it until my next oil change to do the overloads. I do not anticipate the front to drop anymore but just to be safe I’ll give it 3k more miles.

The ride is much better than the stock sport. The truck reacts to large bumps and dips very well, also sweeping turns feel more planted. I especially noticed it with my 400 pound bike in the bed, where the stock Sport suspension would bottom out the Pro with the AAL doesn’t. Honestly felt like nothing was back there.

 

I just realized something. The Pro suspension is rated at 1.75” on a 4x4. Since my truck is a prerunner and missing all that extra 4x4 weight up front is probably why I got the extra 1/2”ish of lift.

 

You might be right. Didn't think about 2WD vs 4WD but all that stuff does add weight for sure. Is good news to me. I wasn't sure I really wanted all of the 1.75 that the kit is supposed to add in the first place. Mainly due to concerns about 4x4 front diff bearing issues when lifted. Will likely end up doing the ECGS bushing as part of the install just because the problem seems so common. Good to hear about ride quality, too. Don't really haul or tow regularly so didn't want it to end up being too harsh as a daily driver.

I just purchased Bilstein 5100 & Icon AAL for the rear on my ‘15 Tacoma 4x4. I currently have Kings coils in the front at the preload that was set. Can I crank up the coil overs an extra inch with stock UCAs? Any issues if so? Thank you!

 

How high are you talking?

 

An inch or 2.. i was told it was gonna stiff-in the ride if I didn’t replace the stock UCA.

 

An inch or 2 over stock? The Baja/Pro are 1.75” over stock, you’d be fine. If talking about and inch or 2 over current lift, that is a whole different story and will likely make it stiff and require new UCAs depending on base lift.

Putting the overloads back in, adding 1/4” top plate spacers and upping the tires to 265/75/R17s, which are about the same diameter as 275s but weigh the same as 265s. Retainer guides on the overloads interfere with the clamps on the spring pack, so removing the front guide.

 

So why two spacers? Isn't just the drivers side needed?

 

OEM life already accounts for Taco lean, no spacers needed. Adding anti-lean spacers on both sides for extra 1/2” lift.

 

Go with the Dakar EL095R's. Remove the big overload. You won't regret it
