Yeah the big heavy tires and 20" wheels do make it stiffer at least on my F150 anyway, made it drive more like my old truck a '99 F250.

Thanks everybody for all the input keep it coming I love it. The passion/enthusiasm on this forum is incredible. The Ford forum I'm on is great but only the Superduty section of it could compete with the responsiveness of this forum. Thanks again.

Some people just like the added room and they like bigger trucks and SUVs. Why do so many people have a Suburban and only have 2 kids? They could use a civic fine but they love all the added room and for some they "have" to have a v8.

OP I came from a 2010 F150 to my 2016 TRD off road and haven't looked back. The truck does feel underpowered now that I've lifted it and put bigger tires and a lot of heavy armor on it. I'm going to regear in the future to bring out the pep.

Honestly I'd ask your dealer for a weekend test drive. I've had several dealers let us take vehicles for the weekend before. Never hurts to ask.

I bought the truck to take me out on the trails to explore. I love to camp and be outdoors. There are many trails that a full size truck just wouldn't take me so it was an easy decision for me.

Here's my old next to my new

I understand wanting the room,( that's why I suggested 4runner earlier), but if that was the reason I would go Ford over Tundra due to the MPG differences. If you are not towing regularly, there is no justification for a Tundra.
I know, your next line is going to be about reasle value. Well, I myself buy a vehicle for me to use, not to try to get my money back a few years later, so I dont look at reasle value when buying a vehicle.

I had an F150 prior to my Tacoma. Used to(no longer) tournament fish for over 20yrs and tow a full sized bassboat all over the Midwest. Also my kids are grown and gone. Soooo opted for the Tacoma, no regrets, better gas mileage, easier to park, more room in the garage and definitely less $'s up front. Mine is a 2010 but will spring for a 2016 or newer next vehicle.
As others have said, test drive and make sure it fits what you would use your vehicle for the majority of the time.

Go buy an ecoboost 2.7 and you will have same mpg, more room for family, and way faster

Just going to toss my 2 cents in here as I was cross shopping several vehicles prior to settling on my Tacoma (also, I am not a brand loyalist, I am a car/truck enthusiast).

First, my situation... my top priorities were 4x4 and 4 door: I am married, have a 2 year old, and live in an area with the potential of getting a good amount of snow. My second priorities were space and functionality: I do have a few hobbies where a truck/SUV/Jeep would come in handy.

I won't bore you with too many details, but I did cross shop all full size 1/2 ton American trucks, a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and a few SUVs. After looking at the SUVs I decided that a truck bed was more important to me and my family. The F150 I was looking at (it had the 2.7 turbo, was a 4 door and had 4wd) was very nice. It had great power, a lot of room, and was pretty comfortable. However, what sold me on the Tacoma over the F150 was mainly the price, and the Tacoma felt better going over bumps... and honestly, I am planning on going off road as well. Also, I am most likely never going to tow anything over 2000 lbs (maybe 2 kayaks), and I did not need to haul a lot of weight in my truck bed.

If you are looking for a fun daily driver, then I think the Tacoma fits that bill pretty well. The F150 is a damn nice truck though and I really, really loved that 2.7 turbo. However, the Tacoma just made more sense for me and I am really enjoying it.

Sounds like you know what you're getting yourself into. I like my Taco, but if I wanted a fullsize it would most likely be a F150/250. I really like that 2.7 turbo, but it makes me a little nervous at the same time. I'm waiting for time to tell how reliable those FI engines are.

Power difference is astounding between the two. And same MPG. Room in the back seat is humongous in the F150. Kids love it. I also like the fact you can get a rear locker on any trim on the F150's, as well as select your preferred gearing. Wish Toyota did that.

Tacoma is definitely more fun to drive, though. As long as you keep in mind that it's not a powerhouse and won't get you the "throw you back in the seat" feel of the F150. It's nimbleness and off-road capability is way ahead of the F150. And parking and daily driving is MUCH easier.

Bonus points for honesty. I'm glad I have a Taco, but if I was kid riding in the back I would want my dad to have the rear seat of an F150 for sure.

My father in law has a '13 King Ranch supercrew. Legroom is freaking awesome, one would think for $60k you could get reclining back seats though. So upright, about an hour back there is all I can do before my back starts killing me.

Do you really need to be sold on a vehicle...

My philosophy is a good product sells it self. If someone needs to sell it, it's not worth buying.
